Aloft by Marriott Durham Downtown

📍 Gay-friendly spas in Durham

7.9

Aloft Durham is a commendable choice for visitors seeking convenience and comfort. The hotel's proximity to the Durham Performing Arts Center makes it an ideal stay for event attendees. Guests appreciate the spotless rooms and the friendly, outgoing staff, particularly the bar and restaurant personnel who demonstrate exceptional dedication to their craft. The dining experience, however, could be improved with more attentive service and a wider beverage selection.

The overall experience at Aloft Durham is enhanced by the large, comfortable rooms and the warm welcome from the front desk staff. While the hotel excels in many areas, the food and beverage services present opportunities for enhancement. Despite this, the hotel remains a solid option for those looking to enjoy a pleasant stay with easy access to local attractions.

We had a great visit. Front desk staff was very kind when checking us in, our room felt spotless, the ease of getting to the DPAC was a perk & we had a great experience with the bar & food. Lucinda at the bar is a master at her craft. Each drink was prepared with care & consideration & you can see her pride in what she does. The gentleman that served us from the restaurant was also extremely kind & an obviously hard worker. So impressed during our stay!

Stayed here because of the walking convenience to a concert venue. The rooms were large and the beds were comfortable and most of the employees were friendly and outgoing. The food and beverage services however left a lot to be desired. Placing an order for breakfast then waiting for it to be cooked and picking it up and carrying it back to a table was a pain especially since we did not know the routine. I felt the cook got somewhat impatient with us because of that. Having a menu and a waitress taking the order and serving it would have been much more convenient especially for such a nice hotel. After the concert we went to the bar to get a drink and there was not any "Bloody Mary" mix. Has anyone heard of a bar that couldn't make a "Bloody Mary?" Other then the food and beverage issues it is an excellent place to stay. I just felt the Aloft was too nice of a hotel not to be able to provide guests with better dining options.

We came for a Neil DeGrasse Tyson talk, and the Aloft staff made the trip that much more amazing! Two adults and two children over 8 shared a corner 2 queen room with a pullout couch. Upon check-in, the front desk staff (kudos to Jonathan!) recommended several off-site eateries (at my request), and we ended up taking his advice (much to our immense benefit). The stay was excellent. Our room was clean and well-ordered, as were the secondary hotel areas. The location is perfect for a DPAC show or just to experience the downtown Durham area. Great stay!

Jenai (Front Desk Agent) was the most nice, professional, and welcoming hotel staff member throughout my stay. Her lovely attitude, friendly personality, and peaceful presence was nice to experience. Additionally, Christa and Eunice (Front Desk Agents) were always very nice and supportive during my stay. Drew (Breakfast Cook) is very hardworking, easy to communicate with, and an all around great person that I enjoyed conversing with every morning during my breakfast visit. I loved my room, the view, and only wished there was more closet hanging space. I will indeed return here for a future stay in Durham (Bull City), as the location was very convenient (even got an opportunity to see Hell's Kitchen at the beautiful DPAC, which was less than a two minute walk from the hotel) to many of downtown Durham's gems.

Chose this hotel based on proximity to DPAC. I wasn't welcomed as a reward member which has become important to me since I have patronized Marriott for many years. Room was comfortable and clean. The mini refrigerator is under the bathroom sink (odd). There was one bartender on staff at the hotel bar(really). My drink was horrible. Dont think I'll stay here again.

You are paying for location and nothing more. ||Aloft Durham is a nice hotel but for over $500 you don’t get any extras. You don’t get free parking which is an additional $15 a day. You also don’t get the morning breakfast which is over $20 a person.||This hotel is also pet friendly and the barking dog alerted us to that several times during our stay.||The rooms are nice and larger than a Hampton Inn.||The real value in it is its location to DPAC and the other areas of the entertainment district. ||It is a nice area and feels secure. That is what you are paying for.
