Hemmerling Guest House

If you are traveling to the New Orleans area and want an outstanding experience in lodging don't miss the Hemmerling Guest House! Not only is this an absolutely wonderful old home, the guest rooms are over the top with quality and charm. An apartment like 'guest room' complete with a full kitchen, living room area, bedroom (s) and bath only to be exceeded by an outstanding hostess (Martha) and more Louisiana hospitality than you will find anywhere. Martha makes each and every guest feel like "family". There are, within walking distance, restaurants (top quality to diner eating) several pubs and coffee shops and a wonderful 'custard' stand. I have stayed at many, many B&B's and guest houses in the past - NONE exceed the quality and charm offered at the Hemmerling House. The real key to this place is the manager (Martha) making the icing on the cake of a wonderful home, decorated with antiques and new conveniences. About an hour north of New Orleans - close enough to see the "Big Easy" while being located in the wonderful town of Hammond.||||If you really want to experience the BEST - give the Hemmerling Guest House a try - you will not be disappointed!

Unfortunately the guest house has been converted to permanent apartments and is no longer available for overnight stays. We visited several years ago and absolutely loved it. The location couldn't be beat, walking distance to all the restaurants and bars downtown. ||||The suites were expertly appointed with full kitchens, living room and bedrooms. The common space was decorated with the artists work which was fascinating to look at. Truely sad we wont be able to return there on our upcoming trip to Hammond

We stayed here overnight for my daughter's graduation. We stayed in the 2 bedroom on the 2nd floor. Loved the quaintness and charm of this historic home in the heart of old downtown Hammond. Would definitely recommend. Fabulous restaurants, shops and coffee houses within walking distance.

This place has the wonder of an apartment and the charm of a house. The location is convenient to shops and restaurants.I want to make sure that everyone knows this is no bed and breakfast,unless you want to make your own breakfast and have it in bed!Also there is no one from management that stays at the home,but if you need anything, they are a phone call a way. The only potential problems for guest, is there is a noisy public parking lot next to the house. If you are a light sleeper,you might want to see if there is rooms away from the parking lot.

Folk artist Bill Hemmerling's pictures hang everywhere! Very hospitable host, suite was impeccable, and a reasonable cost. Also right downtown next to several good restaurants and bars! The peeping frogs put us to sleep...nice!

This house is very beautiful. There are 5 or 6 apartments that you can lease long or short term.
