Despite traveling I90/NY Thruway for about 3 decades, I’d never stayed in Utica. After staying at the Rosemont Inn, I will now schedule my trips to ensure further stays. A genuinely lovely place to stay in a convenient location off the highway and close to many restaurants (I highly recommend Ancora!). I stayed in the Lavender Room, a spacious room with a queen bed, decorative fireplace, huge windows, and a GORGEOUS bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was five star as well. Poached pear and small muffin, waffle with a delicious syrup and a tasty chicken sausage. I did not have room for the yogurt and granola. It feels like home to stay here - guests are friendly with each other, which means everyone is happy and enjoying their stay.
I took my wife here for our anniversary night away. The Rosemont provided a very intimate experience with our spacious and clean first floor room that we stayed in. The room was quiet and we did not hear any of the breakfast preparation or noise from other rooms. The innkeepers were friendly and made themselves available for anything that we needed. Breakfast was a delight with bread pudding, yogurt with granola, fresh fruit, and a pumpkin pastry/cake to go with it. There was of course Coffee and Tea for our liking . Additional snacks were also provided and beverages in the mini fridge . This was my wife's first experience at a bed and breakfast and the bar was set high for future bed and breakfast experience. If we ever find ourselves traveling to or through Utica again, we will definitely be looking for availability to stay at the Rosemont.
For a similar price, why stay in a souless chain when you can help a family preserve a gorgeous antique house? I love the charm of these places, (the high ceilings, woodwork, grand staircase, etc!) and Rita and family are warm and helpful without being intrusive, it's totally private. And WOW, the breakfast and coffee! Better than any recent restaurant I've had, imho. Fantastic, modern shower. There's plenty of off-street parking in their lot down their driveway too. Be adventurous, give it a try!
As frequent travelers and enjoying the bed and breakfast experience, my husband and I were looking forward to the 3-course breakfast which the website boasted as well as the homemade pastries, muffins. We stayed in the Othello room which was very comfortable, clean and had a large bathroom. If I were only rating on the rooms, I would certainly rate higher. However, it is my opinion that a bed and breakfast should offer a wonderfully, delicious breakfast and should match the expectation of what is posted on their website. Breakfast was a disappointment. We were offered yogurt with granola or a bread pudding with chicken sausage for the main entree. After a slight hesitation, our host did offer both...if we wanted. I should have said I would have liked both but I also felt like I would be putting them out if I had wanted both. I chose the bread pudding and chicken sausage. The chicken sausage was phenomenal. However, there were no offerings or sightings of their promised delicious muffins or pastries, which was a disappointment. The fruit course was no fall themed course such as maple baked apples as a possibility per their website mention, but one small unpeeled tangerine for each guest. Having booked this bed and breakfast based on the website's breakfast description proved very disappointing.
Great hospitality. Absolutely outstanding breakfast. My wife and I stayed there two years ago - a two night stay. One evening we experienced an excellent play at Utica's Stanley Theatre. Just admiring the historically appointed and magnificent theatre is worth the price of admission.
Great bed and breakfast. Very historical house built in the 1860s, however the bathrooms were completely remodeled with top notch showers. The owners were very hospitable and cooked a great breakfast. They were very nice to our kids.
My husband and I were celebrating our 60th anniversary. We arrived at 3:45 and were told our room wasn't ready yet could we come back (we traveled 2 hrs). Our children paid an extra $130 for 1 rose, a bottle of cheap champagne(they asked for chardonnay) a few cheese, crackers, grapes and "blobs" of chocolate? They were told we would receive "roses", along with a selection of snacks, breakfast in our room, and late departure (which was never addressed). The breakfast was terrible! 2 slices of blood orange(size of a finger nail) and a burrito? with no taste, and a muffin. They advertise gourmet breakfast….this fell short. No fresh fruit, or gourmet breakfast! We have stayed in many B&B’s for a lot less $, with many more amenities. Save your $ and go to a hotel in Utica. PS the area is a bit " seedy".
