The Gman Tavern

Popped in to warm up one cold December evening. Carl was a great barkeep and kept my steaming hot cup of joe filled. Sat at the bar, had great conversations. Truly a locals kind of place. Clean as can be, too.

I've lived in the neighborhood for five years now and Gman was immediately our corner bar. Here's why: -It's dive-y but super clean (we see the cleaning crew every AM when we walk the dogs). -We've gotten to know the bartenders, door crew, bus crew, etc, pretty well over time and we'd hang out with all of them, they're super kind. -I feel really SAFE here. I saw a brawl break out up the street once where no staff was around to break it up. I've seen people try to start things a handful of times here and they've been handled respectfully each time. -It's dog-friendly and our dogs love it here. I also appreciate that there's a pretty great no assholes policy. I've witnessed people be drunk and loud and stuff. But staff will stand up to people who actively act like assholes, as they should. Because bar staff members are no one's servants. Bottom line: This is the best neighborhood bar that happens to also get a lot of baseball traffic and I think it's all magical 🙂

Great hang out for the Cubs game! A Wrigleyvile standard, the bat used to be called the Gingerman but the new owners after purchase changed the name to Gman. They have a very cool handmade wooden bar and a relaxed smooth vibe. They also have a little venue inside the bar for live music. This very classic, cool little dive bar is worth checking out the next time you are in Wrigleyville.

I had a very unpleasant experience here. One of the employees—a guy with long hair and painted nails—was extremely disrespectful. Instead of helping, he made a rude hand gesture (middle finger) and behaved in an unprofessional and offensive manner. This is completely unacceptable in any workplace, especially when dealing with customers. I expected basic courtesy, not attitude and mockery. I won’t be coming back and strongly suggest others think twice before visiting.

Place is a great place to see live music. The bartender in back with the super cool glasses is amazing, she is absolutely great with people and exudes good vibes. The space itself is intimate and atmospheric

I’ve always loved the Gman. It has a great atmosphere, nice staff, good prices, and it’s conveniently located next to Metro. I recently rented out the backroom (for what I thought was a great/fair price for 3hrs) for a birthday party. We showed a movie, brought in catering, and had our own dedicated bar tender. The staff was so kind and accommodating! An amazing experience top to bottom and all of our guests had a great time too. It really solidified The Gman as an all time favorite bar for me. If you are considering holding an event here, do it!
