Bret's Basement Lounge

📍 Leather bars in Nashville

5.2

Bret's Basement Lounge offers a cozy, neighborhood atmosphere that's reminiscent of the classic TV bar, Cheers. This locally owned establishment features a friendly crowd, a well-maintained pool table, and a selection of light beers. The cash-only policy and no-smoking environment cater to a specific clientele, while the weekly events like the women's pool tournament and karaoke nights add to the charm.

The service is generally attentive, with staff like Bobby and Robin noted for their care. However, some visitors have reported inconsistent experiences, with occasional service issues. Despite this, the affordable bar food and the welcoming regulars make it a popular spot for those seeking a laid-back, social setting. The basement location and older crowd contribute to its unique character.

Absolutely lovely establishment. Bobby & crew took great care of us. Awesome pool table, pizza and wings, KENO available, and every light beer you could need. Also great t shirts for sale.

My wife and I have lived in this neighborhood for 4 years and finally came in last week. If you’re looking for a small bar with a friendly group of regulars, good bar food, darts, and pool this is your place. No loud music, no smoking, and cash only. We love places like this and it’s as close to Cheers as you’ll find.

First time in. I seek out these dive bar situations. I love the vibe. This one was great. Robin was the bartender on-site, she was great. Darts were nice a sharp. Will be back!

It’s in the basement of a Mexican grocery store, so my expectations were appropriately low, I think. Still disappointed. $4 for a domestic bottle. The ambiance was more aligned with the $2.50 beer range, and that’s what it would have needed to be for me to order another. I’m not gonna bash the crowd in that place, cause they were all nice people. But I will tell you that I’m well north of 50 and yet was the youngest person in there on a Friday night.

Very friendly, safe place full of good people. A welcoming group of locals. The women's pool tournament is fun on Monday nights, plus they love their karaoke on Saturdays! Cash only though, lots of smoking (you've been warned). The crowd is older but I like it that way-everyone is out to have a good time and be social. We love this place and definitely consider it a home bar. Here's a random picture that I took last night at karaoke; we had a great time!

This is the BEST BAR in South Nashville hands down! Its LOCALLY OWNED and you are sure to have your self a laugh and a good time. The owner was cracking jokes that had us all dying. We were playing music, dancing around, and having a good ole time. I'm just sorry I wasnt able to stay longer. Everyone knows each other, they keep the beer cold, have delicious pizza, pool, and soon to be darts! I'll see yall as soon as I am back in town!

Bad experience. Came in got two drinks and was cut off for no apparent reason. The lady who was working there also was bare foot with her feet on the bar? It’s a shame because this bar was my grandpas favorite bar and it also has my favorite bowling game and a great atmosphere/vibe with a pool table. The only bad thing I can say about this bar was this one very mean old lady. Wish I could know her schedule so I can come when she’s not there, to enjoy the awesome atmosphere.
