Lovely bookstore! The store cats are also quite wonderful, and they do a lot of local community events. They’ve got slightly more new books to used, and they’re mixed in with each other by genre but a decent selection overall!
Decided to walk from the Marriott downtown to check out King’s Books, largely because of the promise of cats. 😉 The cats delivered, and so did the books. The space has a labyrinthian feel, which, maybe if you were hellbent on finding a particular book, would be less enjoyable, but if you’re in the mood to wander and stumble on new reads, it’s perfect. There seems to be a pretty wide selection, maybe more new than used, with some gifty items sprinkled in (tarot decks, cards, etc.), and the staff was super friendly. I walked out with a book of ghost stories by a new-to-me author, and was greeted by a clear view of Mt Rainier when I walked out the door, the first since I arrived in town. All in all, quite the satisfying bookstore adventure!
I have enjoyed coming to this store now and again. The staff were nice, they gave me a book rec that I liked and ended up buying. They have both new and used books alike, I have to plan out time to visit because I end up perusing numerous titles across different genres. They have ample seating across the store, so you can do just that. They also host variously themed monthly book clubs (Ex. Feminist Utopia, Tacoma Sister Cities, Buddhism Today, etc.), and hold regular community events. King’s Books has an overall great and welcoming atmosphere. I am thankful for the time I have spent here and for their business!
The very best of old fashioned book stores, resident cats included. I was escorted from the door to my subject area by a lovely calico. Wide selection of subjects to choose from and fantastic customer service. Very homey old small town feels at reasonable prices. This is the exact kind of store you bring your grandkids to shop for books.
Awesome not so little indie book shop with two of the coolest shop cats. Very helpful employees. The layout of this shop is one of the best that I have ever seen. New and used all organised incredibly well. Did I mention the cool kitties?? Great selection of tarot and oracle cards as well. Besides books, they have wonderful gift items.,We were there at a decent time when parking wasn't so bad, but I could see it being an issue at times.
Lived right down the street from this shop and I used to spend many a Saturday morning/afternoon here. They have a great selection of books both used and old and even have books from local authors. I would stop here before Barnes & Nobles any day.
This bookstore was full of fun surprises and treasures. Found some great stuff in the attached thrift store too. The woman in the thrift store was super friendly. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.
