Paper + Dirt

Super unique space and concept and an amazing addition to the Pittsburgh lit scene. They sell high-quality magazines/publications/periodicals, on a range of popular subjects, like tennis, architecture, or food. I'm not talking Bon Appetit or Dwell, though. Instead, you get Apartamento (interior spaces) and Magazine F (food). Maybe you'd call them "indie" magazines, like a vinyl for the reading set? Not to say they're totally niche -- Cherry Bombe, for instance, "...celebrat[es] women & cool creatives in the world of food & drink." Paper + Dirt happens to be the only place you'll be able to purchase a physical copy of said magazine in between Cincinnati and Philadelphia. Though it's in a small storefront, there are benches, tables, and chairs, and a growing community library. The space is intended as a reading room and social hub, in addition to a bookseller. They also hold readings and events. I love when retail space extends beyond what is on the shelves. Paper + Dirt is young, but it certainly seems ready to explore that territory.
