Marcus Books

Black ownership is so important. Going to Oakland and witnessing extreme health disparities when it comes to the Black community where a lot of people who look like me are living in tent cities and unsanitary conditions, Marcus Books was a beacon of light. A place of hope in a sea of unfair living conditions. Thank you for being here Marcus Books. I got to pick up a book from a Black comedian that I follow, KevOn Stage. The only thing I would like to see more of when I visit again in the future is the Black staff having more leadership positions in the bookstore. Thank you for making my Black History Month experience a treat, Marcus books!

Incredible book store with a huge selection of books. From art books, the non fiction, to fiction, to work books, to history books. If you don't see it they can special order it. The service is incredible and very knowledgeable, with 4 generations holding down this legacy. The space is soothing and intentionally decorated. I loved seeing an entire section dedicated to children and young adults. This will be a stop in every future trip I make.

Definitely stop here while in Oakland. It’s a gem. Great selection of books. Friendly staff. Awesome spot for book events. One was going on while I was there. Also, their store t-shirt for purchase was very high quality! Stop by and support.

Unfortunately, 80% of the time I shop at this book store, the staff are rude towards me. I'm a cheerful person who's driving a a good amount of miles and paying a bridge toll to support this amazing store. Apparently, being a cheerful person is not the staff's cup of tea. Nonetheless, I like this store. Found out about them 10ish years ago from a SFSU professor who is amazing in every way. Books for all ages. And great art work. They also have many neat things aside from books. Please support this book store!!

I’ve spent lots of hours enjoying the variety of books on the shelves of Marcus. I’m living in Ohio now and when I’m in the Bay Area I always stop by Marcus’s for the sweet time of reading and buying lots of books 💚j

lovely bookstore and staff with a great selection of books!! you can spend a while in here looking through children’s books, fiction, memoirs, non-fiction, political/liberatory books, graphic novels, young adult books, and cards/gifts! check out this bookstore when you’re in Oakland! ❤️

I finally made it out to this iconic bookstore and it did not disappoint! The selection is amazing and vast, and the staff are sweet and helpful. I left feeling inspired, motivated, and extremely proud of being a part of the community. It’s a must visit for anyone in Oakland!
