Skidaway Island SP is just one of Georgia's beautiful state parks. This is our 3rd year staying for 2 weeks. Location is beautiful, camping sites are mostly spaced well with greenery, bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained and heated, as it can get cold. We stayed in site #25, ele and water and around the corner from the bathroom/showers. Already have a reservation for Jan '27 as only half the park will be open due to renovations.
I stayed in the campground 2 nights. The campground store is beautiful and well organized and the counter staff are friendly and professional. My only complaint is that the whole camping area is pitch black except for light being put off by campers there. The roads in the campground are black and requires care to navigate at night due to having no road lights. Also the camping spot numbers for each camping spot are near impossible to see at night. Many number decals don't even face the road, so locating your camping spot at night is difficult. Especially without a map. So.... Make sure before you head to the campground that you have a map that shows your exact camping spot. Showers and bathrooms are great and located well.
The park was very nice. Clean campsites and restrooms however there was one bathhouse that had no heat. The shower in the heated bathhouse was small and water from shower went into "dressing room" side so had to change while standing in water. Even the handicap accessible shower had issues with water entering dressing area but it was big enough to avoid standing in water. I wouldn’t recommend this campground for large rvs because the roads are narrow and windy so there are trees to maneuver around. The trees would be very close to a taller rv. We did see a motor home lose an awning because they hit a tree. The location is good because it’s not far from Savannah. We also spent a day in Hilton Head.
Fantastic campground. Virtually all of the campsites are spacious and private. Almost all have shade of some kind. Wildlife is plentiful. In the 4 days we stayed there we saw deer, racoon, armadillo, barred owl and of course squirrels. The bathhouses are clean. We did not think the state park itself was anything to write home about. It does have a couple of nice/scenic trails but the campground was amazing. Only drawback we saw was that our fireplace ring was almost completely rusted out.
We spent a few hours at the park on a long weekend in Savannah in October. Enjoyed bird watching, seeing alligators and turtles on the trails very much, but my favorite part was the gift shop! It was excellent and the employees were great. Wish their shop sold online because it was fantastic! It's bright, clean and sells some really fun, well made reasonably priced items. We are still talking about it!! 🙂
Skidaway Island State Park is a great spot if you want space. Our site felt spacious and roomy, and the whole campground had a nice open feel instead of being packed in on top of each other. The facilities were very nice and well kept. The bathrooms were clean, but the setup reminded me of a college dorm style layout, functional, just not fancy. The only real downside was getting around at night. The navigation was confusing, the map was not very helpful, and the signage could definitely be better. Once you are settled, it is an awesome place to camp, but arriving after dark was more stressful than it needed to be.
Great campground location — away from traffic and city noise but close enough to Savannah for shopping and attractions. Sites are well-shaded under moss-covered live oaks. Office closes at 5 but late check-ins find a helpful packet of maps and info upon arrival. We had a pull-through site with full hookups for about $46.
