I stopped by the Tybee Island Visitor Center on my way back from North Beach just to see if there was anything else I should do, and I’m so glad I did. The owner’s daughter was there to help, and she was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She took the time to draw on a map for me, pointing out everything I should check out for a quiet solo trip, along with recommendations on where to eat on my way back. Super helpful and welcoming stop….definitely worth it if you’re visiting Tybee!
Made a stop at the visitor center. I believe the lady's name was Susan. I'm sorry if I got that wrong but she was extremely helpful & full of information. That the town was founded by the British. That the guy who designed the town divided into WARDS and each ward surrounds a park. That the people of that time didn't want the catholics church to come because it would have brought Spanish influence if I am not mistaken. Basically you could be catholic but you weren't allowed to establish a place of worship Basically take a foothold in Savanah. That slavery wasn't very popular here so you won't see all those enormous plantations you would normally see in Southern America. We thats all I can remember right now but it was really interesting
Lots of brochures and information about the area. Anything going on Tybee Island, they can inform you! There is an art gallery, gift shop nextdoor within the same building.
Worst experience of our trip to Savannah. Staff were non-engaging. Had no recommendation for visiting or lunch. Lots of typical brochures but that was it. And be warned, you have to pay to park EVERYWHERE on the Island. So stupid especially during off peak season. We wanted to eat but refused to pay so we left and took our money elsewhere.
Somehow we stumbled on this place our last day at Tybee but I really wish we had found it sooner!! Sooo many different options and pamphlets of things to do in the area for people out of town and the little art shop next door is such an added bonus 🙂 There was a friendly lady at the desk who knew a lot! And a really cute bench for a picture out front!
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The adjoining art gallery/gift shop is a wonderful place to find true Tybee made souvenirs to take home.
we had some nice days there but too far away from everything
