Gross Beach

GLASS Beach is to be found next to the outfall of Schoolhouse Creek. It is quiet and peaceful. The name comes from the fact that this area was once part of the Berkeley City Dump and there is quite a bit of broken glass and pottery. Berkeley’s Glass Beach does not compare with Fort Bragg’s Glass Beach (far less glass at this one) but is still worth a visit.

Ever since ditching the training wheels, we look for a convenient spot to ride. This pretty perfect, nice mix of loose sand/gravel, little hills and the payoff of a nice somewhat tucked away beach. What it’s like in the 2pm summer winds I have no idea. Yet.

Glass beach is a romantic name that is a total misnomer. Sure there’s glass there, dangerous sharp broken shards not smooth attractive glass you might find as a looser sand beach. Lots of garbage here too unfortunately. Be careful bringing a dog off the main trails as cuts from the glass are a real problem especially near shoreline edge. Views are nice and a decent place to watch a sunset just be on the lookout for the zoned out druggies often encountered here.
