This is by far the best way to get on the water in a recent model sailboat with ZERO maintenance worries or unexpected costs. The SailTime staff is friendly and responsive. The scheduling system works perfectly. Boston harbor is a wonderful base to sail out of, with great views, plenty of islands and places to moor or anchor, and access to Massachusetts Bay and beyond. To me, this is the only model that makes sense unless you plan to be on the water more than fifteen days a month (or have buckets of money to put into a boat that will stay at the dock most of the time). For those who have the time and interest to make sailing their "full-time hobby", then SailTime can also be a great way to ease into boat ownership.
If you are dreaming of boat ownership as my husband and I are, there is nothing better than a SailTime membership as a first step to get you there. You absolutely learn all that can go wrong with a boat but luckily you have a great team with Captain Paul and Brian there to walk you through while out sailing or just fix it while the boat is docked. Of course the boats are well maintained so most of the time nothing goes wrong but when it does - they are close at hand always ready and able to help. Members also help each other so essentially you are never alone. Our journey with captain Paul actually started as our instructor for ASA114 so the other big plus of SailTime is that they know how to teach you become a better sailor. Membership will also give you discounts on their classes at their school, FirstReef. SailTime membership provides you with plenty of time on the water, all that you would be able to really take if working a full time job and more. The New England coast is spectacular and vibrant with adventure, challenges and possibilities. Ask anyone who owns a boat how much they spend for the season and you shall soon find out how affordable and worth it SailTime Boston really is. While we are in New England and until we are owners ourselves, we will be part of SailTime and look forward to their expansion and partnerships worldwide. Yes guys - you can!! You are the best!
SailTime Boston is the fastest and easiest way to get access to a beautiful boat with all the benefits of ownership, but none of the headaches! Captain Paul and Brian run a highly professional operation and support SailTime members in every way!. The boat is perfectly maintained, and you can’t beat the cost!
I have been a member of Sail Time Boston for 3 years. It has been a wonderful experience. The staff members are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I had basic sailing skills but I signed up for sailing certification courses with First Reef Sailing, a sister company. The courses were fun and I learned the skills required to feel comfortable sailing the larger boats. The boats are well equipped and maintained. Great Fun!!!! Our youngest daughter had her wedding ceremony on the Astra Mare, a 40' catamaran docked in East Boston.
I have been a customer / client / captain with SailTime for 8 seasons. The experience is absolutely incredible. SailTime offers you the ability to take out and captain a sailboat that is ready and maintained for you. As a customer you simply show up and take the boat for 1/2, full day, or multiday timeslots. If you love the ocean, love sailing, or are simply curious how to transition, from a sailing desire, to captaining a full-size sailboat (think 35 feet and larger) this organization can get you there and set you up with a boat to enjoy (fractionally) for the Boston sailing season. The flexibility and capabilities of what you can achieve are unparalleled for the adventurous. Sail and weave your way through the Boston harbor islands, take a few days to sail away and explore P-town, Gloucester, Plymouth, Salem, etc. Take the boat and grab a mooring ball in Boston Harbor for the night. Take the club dinghy and transition from the boat on a mooring ball to exploring the views from Spectacle Island's peak or bring friends for a sea glass search on Peddocks Island. The opportunities to create lasting memories with friends and family through this club are incredible, and I highly recommend looking into the opportunity if this kind of living piques your interest.
One of the best boat clubs I have been a member of, in the Boston area. A very convenient way to enjoy sailing with or without boat ownership. The selection of boats, support from Paul and Brian and the boating community that they have created here is remarkable. An orientation to get familiar with the boat, help at any time and well maintained boats make it easy to join and have made my sailing time here memorable.
I've been a member of SailTime Boston for two years and love it. The quality of the boats in the program is superior compared to what I've seen in other shared sailing programs in the area, and I've had great interactions with the SailTime community.
