Daylighting of the Saw Mill River & Mill Street

This was a great project that yonkers completed. It's much nicer than the parking lot that used to cover the river. It's landscapes nice and host a decent amount of fish, wildlife and native plants and flowers. The only issue is that it is a magnet for the homeless and it is in downtown yonkers so while it is a very nice place, just be cautious while you are there.

The sawmill River was definitely a surprise! I was walking down the street and I kept hearing water and I looked down and there's an entire river running underneath this building lol I haven't seen this, ever in the city before! And I lived here all my life. The River runs through five blocks I believe. You could walk through three bridges and take a nice little stroll the day I went it was pretty cold though so I'll probably come back during the spring or summer but definitely really cool to see if you're into history and interesting parks in the city.

Having seen and visited the western-most section of daylighted river in person during a time-limited visit by kayak, I had missed the other sections farther east. I had to study close Google Maps later from home to see these other pieces nearby, along Mill Street (across Woodworth Ave.). And on a recent trip by train got to see them in person. Beautiful...and I could easily imagine being somewhere more bucolic farther upstate or in Europe with the sound of fast moving water.

It was great to see The Sawmill River and what they did to the surrounding area making it a nice little Promenade in park.
