Harlem’s living room. That giant rock is the whole vibe—people reading, kids climbing, dogs losing their minds. The amphitheater shows in summer are solid. Pool gets absolutely packed, but that’s part of it. Some corners feel quiet, so I don’t wander too far alone. Stick to the action and it’s a great spot. Feels like the heart of the neighborhood.
Marcus Garvey Park is a really chill neighborhood park with lots of space to hang out, walk around, or just enjoy being outside. There’s a mix of open lawns, trees, and shaded spots that make it great for picnics or reading a book. I love that there are paths for a quick stroll and spots where you can watch people playing basketball or kids running around. It feels lively but not overwhelming, with a real community vibe. A great place to relax, get some fresh air, or meet up with friends.
We went to see the play MEMNON AT Richard Rogers Amphitheater. The play was nice it was Shakespeare in the park. The acting was good. I must say I enjoyed the play it was from 8:35 to 10 pm. It was in the Amphitheater, which was my first in that park. The bathroom was clean. I've seen dogs running around in the park and didn't see any picnic area or playground. My guest it was on the other side of the park. We came in through the 124th area.
Beautiful park, especially for midnight walks but it may not be the safest park in the city. I've seen some criminal activity go down here before, including public prostitution and a whole "gang" bang. A lot of the greenery is also flooded with trash and litter including used condoms, needles and plastic bags. It's unfortunate because Marcus Garvey is really beautiful and has a nice tower to boot. Love love the view of the west side of the city though.
Marcus Garvey Park is one of Harlem’s hidden gems. It’s a beautiful and peaceful spot right in the middle of the city, perfect for relaxing, hanging out with friends, or just enjoying some quiet time. The park is always clean and well-kept, with plenty of benches, open space, and shaded areas. The amphitheater is a nice touch — they sometimes have live performances and community events that really bring the neighborhood together. There’s also a pool for the summer and a great view if you walk up the hill. Overall, Marcus Garvey Park is full of Harlem’s true spirit — lively, welcoming, and full of culture.
In terms of the park its very nice. There are playgrounds, plenty of space for walks, there is the swimming pool in the summer. I didn't like that being with my 3 children by myself there were a few people just hanging out there looking at us. That make me feel unsafe to walk aorund and explore more.
Nice enough place during the day but it turns into a whole different monster at night. It's best to avoid the hill especially, as shady characters start crawling out of the woodwork doing shady things in the shadows. It would be nice to have a more secure presence at the park so you could actually feel safe taking in the views at night but alas, that just isn't an option, and no view is worth being robbed (or worse) over. I guess that's Central Harlem for you though. It's just a shame since it is a very pleasant place during the day and a nice environment for all ages, and as I said before, the views from on top the hill would be great at night but, I just did not feel safe at all when I had attempted it.
