Queen Anne Hotel

I don’t have anything negative to say about our stay at this hotel. Location is excellent, room comfortable, staff friendly and the complimentary daily breakfast and cookies are awesome. |Continental breakfast consists of waffle station, assorted muffins and breads including bagels. Some fruit and hard boiled eggs as well as coffee and juices. Our room (#416) didn’t have a mini fridge but there is a liquor store that’s conveniently located across the street. |Staffed 24 hours a day, I felt safe in the building as well as the surrounding areas. Parking isn’t bad at $30 a night but we didn’t have a car for more than a day so it didn’t affect us. There is free street parking on the street but check the hours so you don’t get a ticket! |Overall, my husband and I had a great stay and would absolutely stay here again next time we visit SF. |My only critique is that I wish the coffee provided was of better quality. Other than that, pretty perfect stay.

Positive: The decor is a wonderful hodge podge of antiques and curios. The staff is great and very helpful. Negative: Room was moderately cold. Carpet could stand a good cleaning. My allergies were acting up, probably dust.

Great hotel! Staff are amazing and the little extra touches like sherry and cookies and the tea and coffee bar and the beautiful Victorian vibes really made this a relaxing stay. It was within walking distance to Japantown, with its amazing shops and restaurants in a very nice area.

What a lovely stay! It truly exceeded my expectations. The sitting areas are so welcoming—this is the perfect place to curl up with a good book by the fireplace! The decor is beautifully done, and the shared spaces and rooms were very clean. I greatly appreciated the hotel's charm and character. It really made you feel like you were in the Victorian era! The suite is quite nice, with plenty of space—bathroom was huge! Other than that, it's a late check out compared to most a and they aren't rushing you out the door. Shout out to the front desk associates on Sunday morning, they were so friendly and kind, and let us hold our bags while we went for a walk. The only thing I would suggest is an improvement to the breakfast. If you're vegetarian, lactose- and gluten-free, options are very limited. I'm not the biggest breakfast person, but it would have been nice to have more choices. If you're looking for a real SF experience or a staycation, with or without the family, this is a great option and location. Sadly no ghosts:( ...maybe next time!

The cons definitely outweigh the pros with this quaint hotel. The mattress was so broken down that I had to sleep sideways. After the first night, I asked the front desk about changing rooms because the bed was so uncomfortable and was informed that all of the rooms have the same mattresses. Pros: good area, room seemed safe, plenty of hot water.

We really wanted to like this place. The Victorian vibe seemed like it was right up our alley. For the most part, the lobby is beautiful. But it does have a hint of the mildew aroma that is extremely prevalent in the rooms. The rooms are very dated and rundown. All of our clothing reeked of mildew when we got home and after multiple washings have only improved slightly. The location of the hotel is not super great. Yes, Japan town and Fillmore Street are just a few blocks down the hill. But everywhere you go in the city is a bit of a trip from this place. Anything we saved by staying at this three star hotel was burned up by the Waymo and Uber trips that followed. We tried to use the bus from here, and the concierge gave us the wrong information which left us 270-year-old stomping up and down hills and through traffic trying to find our way. The breakfast is lackluster, and is basically the same sugar/carb offerings you would see at your typical Motel. When we told the front desk person that we were leaving after two nights, even though we had paid for four, they just said "OK "like it did not surprise them in the least. At one point some owner must’ve had a great vision for this place And put together a nice hotel, but nothing has been updated for many years when it comes to the rooms. Could not recommend.

Fell in love with this place years ago and time has changed either the hotel or us What was charming is now, well, almost tawdry We dropped our bags at 2pm as early check in was not available. We returned at 3:30 pm (3pm check in) and got our room key but the room had not been made up…bed was stripped, dirty glasses etc. No apologies from the staff but helpful info that it might take an hour to get our room ready. We passed the time in the parlor which would have been pleasant had it not been for a large group gathered in one area and talking loudly and sharing loud videos from their phones. Staircase was decked out in "caution" tape, maybe due to recent refinishing? We finally got to our room about 4:30 and I suggested they may want to make an adjustment to try and improve their overall review….nope So our room was musty but that is really part of the charm of these older SF hotels. The bathroom door did not latch shut. Some wallpaper was peeling and the outside noise was pretty significant (thank goodness for the prevalence of EV’s) Breakfast was a nice touch and about what you would expect at a Hampton Inn or other. Evening sherry another nice touch but requires a little planning as it is only 4-6 pm Bed not particularly comfortable and bathroom not really appointed like you might expect for this price (no Kleenex?) Have stayed here on a couple of occasions previously but this is probably our last. It just isn’t worth the cost and there is no shortage of good stays elsewhere
