Hyatt Place Chesapeake/Greenbrier

My stay in this room was horrible. When we checked the bed, there was blood on the bedroom sheets, which was extremely disturbing and unacceptable. Because of this, I couldn’t even sleep comfortably. On top of that, the noise level was terrible. The people staying next to us had kids who were constantly banging and yelling, making it nearly impossible to rest. Overall, the experience was very unpleasant and I would not recommend staying here unless these issues are addressed

Positive: The location was great. The staff was professional and the breakfast was nice. Negative: The rooms were not clean. There were stains all over the walls, doors, headboards, and bedding. The floors and baseboards were filthy and covered in dust.

We were cruising out of Norfolk and needed a place to stay the night before the cruise. This Hyatt provided a convenient and affordable location to the cruise parking area. It is also near numerous restaurants, many within walking distance. It meets the normal high Hyatt standards, including the good breakfast.

I came out for job training! I must say its a nice hotel mid grade. Room was clean nice check in. Friendly staff. I did eat at the restaurant part only because the staff wasn't there yet. Breakfast was hot and FREE!!! Traditional American breakfasts eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes or waffles. Variations of those food items not everything at one time.

The location in Virginia Town Center was great. We had a king suite & the room was beautiful just as pictured BUUUTTTT all of the suites are located on the corner facing Independence Blvd and the windows are NOT double pane so you WILL HEAR EEVVVVEERRRYYYY car, cat, dog, person going by! There is a hospital about 2 miles up the street so you will hear at least 10 ambulances per night! If that’s not enough, the furnace for the heat/air was right beside the headboard so everytime it turns on it’s super loud! The hotel was completely booked so I did not sleep for 5 days!!! Make sure you get a room facing the parking lot otherwise you will NOT GET ANY SLEEP!!!

What a dump. Heard every step of the people upstairs. Heard everything our neighbor did in the bathroom. Computer desk was an old creeky table from my grandmother’s house with matching, period correct, fake brass lamp. No microwave in room. Charged me $30 for the pleasure of checking in 2 hours early to a room that was ready anyway.

To be fair, I rarely write reviews — but it’s also rare to have an experience where almost everything goes wrong. I’ll keep this as condensed as possible. CHECK-IN: No uniforms, so you can’t even tell who works there. The greeting was cold. I was handed a key, asked for my debit card, told that there was continental breakfast, and that was it. I was here initially for a business trip, and the welcome felt sketchy and unprofessional. ROOM: I inspected the room like a rental car to avoid being blamed for damage. Immediately noticed: – Musty, stale thick smell – Couch cushion with a 7-inch tear – Ceiling cracks with bad patchwork, likely water damage – Refrigerator shoved in at an angle – Half-bath is small and steams up instantly on hot, to the point you can’t see – Linens dingy and stale-smelling (I slept on the couch with the spare blanket) – Visible carpet stains – A/C extremely loud and keeps switching modes, causing temperature swings that woke me up sweating multiple times. – No real amenities besides weak Wi-Fi – And yes… I saw a cockroach. – Even the iron leaked all over my suit because the outlet kept timing out unless I held the button in. FOOD: Room service menu is tiny and overpriced. Ordered a double cheeseburger once and never again — tasted generic and processed, bottom bun was rock-hard, Parmesan fries were cold. Breakfast was no better: imitation eggs, half-done boiled eggs. I ended up eating half a waffle, cereal, and one bite of sausage before deciding to get breakfast elsewhere. SERVICE: Didn’t bother staff much, but three things stood out: 1. A housekeeper forced her cart into the elevator with me and then called me "Mr. T" while commenting on my jewelry. She laughed and meant it as a joke, but it felt stereotypical and inappropriate. 2. No complimentary water anywhere in the hotel. I asked the front desk for water and was handed a cup of tap water from the sink. I threw it away as I walked outside. This is crazy. 3. The biggest issue: after bumping up my flight, and checking out 8 hours early, around 3 AM, I woke up the next day to a $500 smoking fee for cigarette smoking — I don’t smoke cigarettes. The manager was uncooperative in reversing it. This charge also overdrafted my bank account hundreds of dollars, leaving me unable to feed my family while I disputed this. This has forced me to contact the BBB, Attorney General, FCC, and Hyatt Corporate. For a hotel rated 4.1 stars, I genuinely don’t know where that rating comes from. Where??
