Just went for 6 nights for Mardi Gras! Staff were all very friendly & check in & out was easy. Really chill vibe of the place. Room was awesome, i got the one with its own bathroom. It’s feet from Canal St and a trolley stop so it was really easy and cheap for me to get down to French Quarter. Also uber from it to Bourbon St was only about $14! I’ll definitely stay there again!
The hostel is well located for taking the street car down to the quarter while also be great for walking in mid-city. The facilities are fine and what's to be expected from a hostel, the staff were all friendly and very helpful. ||That being said, I've stayed in the privates and the dorms near the pool. The pool dorm is right next to a piano, that has random people playing it late in the night or early in the morning. You never know when it's going to happen, and while they say quiet hours are 10pm to 10am, this was rarely followed. So if you're planning a good nights sleep, try for a different dorm in the hostel.
Positive: Honestly nothing really Negative: Rude, aggressive staff that make you feel uncomfortable. There's 2 employees there that have severe anger and take it out on other's. One had a bat in his hand threatening another employee. There's more than that though
Had such a great experience here staying the weekend before Mardi Gras! Met lovely people, saw a cool brass performance in the backyard. The place has so much soul and character. Not pristine if that’s what you’re looking for, but that adds to it. Super comfy mattresses. Wonderful place to sleep and make friends. Also good location!
Solid hostel, 10 times cheaper than some of the hotels but also 10 times the caulk. Old building, the main house is eclectic and the back patio is very pleasant. Stayed in a private room and it was very bare bones and weathered but the bed was comfy. All the amenities and good recs from the daily info board you could want from a local hostel. Also friendly service from everyone and Canal street is very convenient for public transit. Side note, when there's parades the train stops running and switches to buses that will get you most of the way down to the French Quarter. Service slows but you can always get a bus back late at night too.
I spent 6 nights at India Hostel and loved it! The place was always clean, quiet, and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly with figuring out what to do in the city and how to get there. I stayed in a private room and it was nice to have peace and quiet to come back to. Being located 1 block from a central street car line was super convenient for getting around. There is plenty of comfortable outdoor space if you're looking to take a day off from partying and just relax around the hostel too. I'll definitely be coming back to New Orleans and will definitely be staying here again. Thanks for a great stay!
The staff were very friendly and helpfully and it was in a great location, right on the tram down to the French quarter! Also very affordable, I shared a private room with my partner for $53 a night. With this said, I wouldn't stay here as a women traveling alone. The shower stalls didn't lock (the only exception being the private indoor bathroom). However, the toilet stalls did lock. Also, our bedroom "doors" were just shutters and the "lock" was a little pin that you could very easily unlock from the outside. Even with the shutter doors shut, you could easily see through. I felt safe since I was with someone and I don't know what the shared rooms were like, but I don't think I'd come back if I was traveling solo. Just in general it was a little run down and in need of some love as well (cracked tiles, paint chipping, no hooks or place to put stuff in the room, etc).
