Location is ideal for convention center. Nice to be able to walk to convention center and outlet mall. Rooms are roomier than I expected with a comfortable couch for a hotel room. Loved the living area space and liked the extra sink in the "kitchen area." Bathroom was clean enough, but tub was slow to drain on first day and by our third day, it took hours to drain. Valve to change from tub to shower head was also half working, so half the water came out of tub spout and half went to the shower head. Breakfast was bare minimum. Let's face it, hotel breakfasts are never great, but this was below average for a hotel breakfast. The gentleman working the breakfast on Jan 19 was not interested in being there. He walked past the overflowing trash can at least 3 times and was slow to restock anything. The coffee machine is a neat idea, but adding a carafe with just plain brewed coffee would save time for many. More than half that used the coffee machine just wanted a cup of coffee, not cappuccino, espresso, etc. Valet was efficient and kind. If I have to come back to New Orleans Convention center, I would likely look for somewhere else to stay.
We enjoyed our stay here during Xmas break. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean and with a character. No chemical smells. Good shower water pressure at high floors. You have all the basics you would need. Decent breakfast. Good location in terms of distance to downtown and streetcar stops. There is a paid parking lot (Piccolo Lot, $25 overnight) 1 min away if you want to arrange parking yourself.
The Mercantile is the perfect hotel to stay at while visiting the Big Easy. This hotel is conveniently located to both the convention center as well as Bourbon Street. The Smoothie King Arena and Caesar's Super dome are also right around the corner. In terms of the hotel, the rooms are super spacious, clean, and extemely comfortable. The team was super accommodating and made me feel like a part of the family. There was a complimentary breakfast available that everything I needed to start the day. I highly recommend this hotel. I can't wait to come back!
I had a pretty great stay here. My wife and I were in New Orleans for a convention right around the corner from the mercantile. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location can't be helped. There are some upsides to being close to everything. But I only did it because I had to - I simply prefer hotels away from the busyness of the party. Random sirens at 2am isn't a fun time. The room was warm. I guess I should start traveling with a travel fan to have for the night time. I had that room AC at 66 and I honestly don't think the room got less than 72. I feel like the thermostat needs calibrated or something. I would stay again. I might just bring a fan and some ear plugs for night time.
We have been very happy with The Mercantile. The room is comfortable, the breakfast was decent (standard warming trays of scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage & bacon plus a menagerie of bread items etc) and it's easily walkable to the popular parts of town as well as the trolly. The rooms are nicer than the photos online. ||Only gripe is a big stain on the carpet and the shower is a bit worn but perfectly functional.
We'd definitely stay here again. It was clean, quiet and centrally located. You can tell they put effort into getting the details right, from exposed brick walls and NOLA artwork to jazz records and a record player in the room. It was a great home base for sightseeing.
It's been 10 years since I stayed here. It was great back then. Unfortunately it feels like it has not been updated since. The rooms were VERY disappointing. Less than half the lights & switches did not work in the room. The shower door handle was about falling off and the door would not close to stop water from spraying out. All of the faucets felt like you needed a wrench to turn them on and off and the wet bar faucet did not work at all. The good... The bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly.
