Garner Hotel Topeka West by IHG

Obviously a new hotel for there were some things that need tweeking, but nice. Rooms are large with very nice, fluffy beds and good pillows. Frig and microwave. Our room had big shower with no tub. Free, light breakfast. All things considered, good.

We now have relatives in Topeka, so will be stopping in a few times every year. We stayed at the Quality Inn last time, but tried this Sleep Inn in August. It's one of the old style ones with a shower and no tub - and I like this. The vanity is outside of the shower/toilet room so two people can utilize it at the same time.||||The room is adequate sized with outlets for electronics and good WiFi. Everything worked as expected. We did not go to the pool, so I'm not sure if it's open. Breakfast was OK and I'm sure as things open up, it will be improved. Nice little refrigerator with a working freezer. Nicely chilled as we arrived.||||The desk person (manager?) was very helpful and friendly. Lots of restaurants close by and a good place to stay. ||||I was charged for the safe on my bill (just went to look for the bill after reading some other reviews). I discovered the safe as I was reviewing the room before checking out - had no idea that it was in the closet. This was NOT mentioned at check-in! Looks like we'll have to mention this at check-in if/when we return. It would be so easy for them to say that they've installed a safe in the room and for "only $1.50" we can use it.

We normally stay at the Hyatt Place, but thought we'd like a change of pace. Our reservation was made a month in advance and we mentioned a very late check in, because we were driving. However, upon checking in, we were happily surprised to be offered an upgrade ..but then sadly the staffer said she couldn't do it. We said "no problem", rcvd our key cards and proceeded to our rooms. Then upon unpacking I noticed that we were immediately charged for our stay. (staying 4 nights!) I went back and mentioned that issue, questioned why we were charged upon arrival and also we wanted to pay in cash when checking out. She looked confounded and said that we don't accept cash and we charge for the stay now. 🤔🥴 I'm 57yo and never have I ever experienced that "policy". I replied that doesn't seem right, and she gave a blank stare. However, we just wanted to go to bed, so whatever. Second issue is the very sub par breakfast situation. Consistently, (2 days in a row) run out of overcooked scrambled eggs, the oatmeal is hard and looks like dark gravy. We went to BK down the street. Positives: great pillows, showers and atmosphere. However, we will not stay at a Garner site again.

The hotel was comfortable and clean but I was disappointed that a hot tub was advertised but the hotel didn’t have one. I also asked for clean towels daily and they didn’t come. So my husband had to chase down the maids to get them. Hotel rooms are small but quiet. There was no channel guide for the TV. There were no plastic cups of any kind in the room. And no coffee in the room which people need. The front desk folks were friendly.

Staff is wonderful. Beds and rooms are clean. Someone needs to tell City of Topeka not to pick up garbage at 2am and wake up guests with garbage trucks. Breakfast was leftovers reheated. The first day was good, the second day the biscuits were hard as a rock and the gravy was cold.

The man and women were so lovely, their kindness was real! I felt safe as a single women. Also they had biscuits and gravy for breakfast! I’ve stayed here twice this week and I’m always able to book last minute which is perfect for my job 10/10

Staff was very helpful and welcoming. Room was clean. Hotel looks nicely renovated. Would definitely recommend staying. We'll be back for sure!)
