The Laurel Foundation is one of the best charitable organizations I’ve ever come across. In addition to the incredible camp experiences they provide for LGBTQ+ identifying kids and also kids affected by HIV, they also provide much needed support through out the year like their annual toy drive and holiday party. Margot (the leader) is a saint and single handedly built the foundation 30+ years ago and so many families have benefited from her kindness. I have been lucky enough to help out by volunteering at both camps and teaching the kids about music and DJ’in. And I’ve MC’d, DJ’d, and served as a live auctioneer for several fund raising holiday parties. So proud that the tradition has continued and this year we even had a corporate sponsor! The kids absolutely love the camp!!! And as an LGBT adult who was bullied as a kid — I wish I had a camp like this when I was younger to know that it’s okay to be different and that everyone should feel accepted. Love the Laurel Foundation!!!
My kid loves Camp Mulberry and can’t wait to go back every summer. They even talk about wanting to be a counselor when they are old enough. Camp Mulberry is important to us because it provides a safe space for my child to have a traditional camp experience and to make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
My child has been to Camp Mulberry 2 years in a row now - here's his review: Hey! Camp Mulberry makes me feel so accepted and comfortable with myself. Camp Mulberry is a great place for me to make friends similar to me, do cool activities, and even learn some new things! The Camp lasts a week every summer and is held in California. They have tons of activities like rock climbing, archery, arts and crafts, theater, swimming, and so much more! I am writing this in the hopes that people see this and donate to Camp mulberry. They need this because it is a non profit organization that is free to go to, so it is pretty difficult to have enough money to do all these cool activities! The reason they are able to is because of the sponsors and donors. If you are able to donate to Camp mulberry, please do. I honestly love it there and I want it to continue being as awesome and welcoming as it is. Thank you for reading this!
My son was a first time camper at the Laurel Foundation summer camp this year for gender diverse youth. He came back saying he had an amazing time and made so many amazing connections with peers and counselors. He said he wished it was longer and cannot wait to return next summer. Thank you Laurel Foundation and its volunteers for the incredible opportunity!
