Dam West Beach

It's a camping site in Illinois about 1 hour drive from St. Louis. You can swim and fish here. But needs a license to fish. I like the area as it is beautiful. The drawback is there are too many flies and it's not a good place to grill your meats. The restroom is very clean.

We went during the week and it was so nice and quiet. Kids explored the beach and played in the sand. We did keep finding little pieces of glass in the sand and that was disappointing. Definitely recommend wearing something on your feet until you read the water and even in there as well. The shower houses were giving really cold water as well.

We had fun at this beach. Water is not so clear, but it was ok. They have clean restrooms, grill, clean, no trash and they have kids playground. Overall, it was a nice beach to visit.

The lake was a great spot for a family day. Even with all the other guests there was plenty of room in the water and out. The beach, park, and pavilions are very well maintained. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway or a day swim highly recommended coming. Walmart is conveniently placed less than ten minutes away.

Amazing place for the family! We make use of the picnic area/BBQ pits everytime we come and make an all day event out of it. If we forget anything, Walmart is super close! Recommend beach mats, sand toys, and sunscreen (no shade on the beach area) if bringing littles. Umbrellas are not so great as it does tend to be a little windy. A canopy is better. There are pavilions you can reserve for reasonable pricing throughout the season. Also, not too far on the other side of the dam is a spot for fishing. I've been coming here since I was a kid and will continue bringing my kids here for years to come!
