I am a ham operator and did an activation at this park. Loved the lakes and the bathrooms were clean. A super cute state park and they also offer camping and have a boat dock for the boats for fishing.
The traffic from the highway is pretty loud so much so that if you are looking for piece and quiet I don't recommend it. I went fishing there a few times and didn't catch any fish. I used the kayak rental once. The service was fine. The playground area was fine. Used the grill recently for a party and it did the trick. It is pretty to drive around the lake for a minute in the Fall when the leaves are changing.
We really enjoyed our time here. We had quick access to the biking and hiking trails. We saw plenty of deer and woodchucks during our stay. They could improve their trail map to better represent the trails and distances of them. When ready the map the trails look they they are in a certain area but then you have to find them. A lot of the trails run I to each other, and sometimes they are not marked, so you don't know which way to go to stay on the trail you want to finish.
Very nice area, only issue we had was that someone else had taken out spot and it was 8:00 in the evening when we finally got to the campground. They had their tent set up and a fire going on in the pit. When we asked about them being in our spot they got in their car and drove away. The spot next to them was vacant so we parked in it.
This was a great park for a quiet weekend. Most sites were full but they are reservable so you don't have to worry about not having a spot. Bathrooms were clean. Only electric hook-ups but water is available before you set up camp.
Really nice campground. So many trees and a beautiful river. Bugs weren't too bad. Flies do bite, but nice little beach area, tons of baby frogs when we went. Plenty of spots and we'll worth the price!! Very affordable and showers are kept up.
Overall an awesome park, lots of river access and several lakes. Great bike paths, very scenic. As for camping, the campground is rather small and tight. However, there are a few sites along the river that can accommodate a small camper. No electricity, but the view is awesome! We had site 18, loved it. Fished right behind the camper and caught a few walleye. A pair of bald eagles were right across from us and even came down to bathe in the river. Be aware, the park, and especially the campground map, is WAY off for scale, everything is a lot closer than shown.
