The Sydney

📍 Gay bars in Omaha

8.0

Service options, located in the United States, is a cozy gay bar known for its intimate atmosphere. This small venue is a charming spot for a casual drink, but its drag brunch events may fall short in terms of organization and food safety.

The venue tends to fill up quickly, leaving many patrons standing. The brunch spread may not meet expected health standards, with food often left uncovered and unkept at proper temperatures. Additionally, the show's start time can be delayed. While it's a great place to support local drag, the overall brunch experience may not align with everyone's expectations.

I'm sure as a bar? It's a nice little hole-in-the-wall. But for a brunch? A drag brunch? A disaster. The venue has virtually no seats unless you're one of the first 12 people in the door. There were at least 30 people just standing with nowhere to place their drinks and/or food. Oh, and the food? Not food safe. Just in trays sitting out on a foldable table. Nothing being kept warm. The gravy for the biscuits was in a Tupperware container with a few flies around it. And there were ZERO serving utensils aside from the gravy, meaning everyone was touching it with their hands. For $20 a ticket, the food should at least be at the level of a 2 star hotel. The show also didn't start when it was advertised. It said 11, and by 11:25 it hadn't started! I love drag and will always support local drag, but not at a place like this. Not coming back to this business again. $20 absolutely WASTED. And this was my first drag brunch, too. Do better or don't do these at all.

First time coming here and went for the drag brunch Sunday and there was no seating left, like they oversold the venue to where at least 40-50 people are standing. And don't get me started on the "brunch". It was biscuits in old tupperware, a small container of country gravy, sausages, strawberries, and 8 jars of brown gravy with NO SERVING UTENSILS. Nothing was held at their appropriate temperature which is not food safe in any way especially since doors opened at 10am. Needless to say, I paid $20 to stand and starve. I get that you have to pay for the drag queens, but chafing dishes and chafing fuel is inexpensive, go to the dollar tree if you have to. Don't advertise it as a brunch and have it be worse than a hotel continental breakfast. Can't comment on the drag because it was supposed to start at 11am, but it didn't we left at 11:25am. I won't be wasting my money on this disorganized mess ever again!

I was here for a few different comedy shows and the crowd has always been welcoming and had a great time. Luke Severeid and all of the performers did a fabulous job. So glad we brought our friends to this show!

The Sydney is a benson staple. You get that laid back, be whatever you want to be. Definitely a safe place! Shows and exciting events happen often, plus the staff is amazing. Queer night on thursdays!

My favorite dive bar in Omaha. Super inclusive, amazing local music and comedy, and I've never felt safer as a woman in a bar than I do at the Syd. Go on Tuesday night for free open-mic comedy - it's always a great time and Dan is the best bartender this side of the Missouri.

I travelled from KC to perform at this venue for a Pride event in June 2024. They had a private space for performers, the stage had good lighting and was elevated so the whole bar could see. The energy was great, the audience really loved the burlesque and shibari. Follow me on instagram @velvetlegacy69
