Captain Video

Captain Video is no longer a rental store, just in case if you didn't know. It's a great low cost retail outlet of DVDs, VHS, LPS, and CDs. ALSO MAGAZINES! Try finding magazines these days. The basics $1 VHS, $2 DVD, $5 Blu-Ray. Behind the side curtain? Tons of ADULT titles. Very large selection overall, covering all genres of film and television. Titles added all the time. Inventory is computerized so if you're searching for something, Ira can tell you if he has it or not. He also does special orders for hard to find items like the "Life on Mars" series - probably can even access the BBC version. Why stream when you can own? Parking lot on the right off of El Camino Real. Appears to be wheelchair accessible.

There seems to be a lack of places to buy DVD movies. Captain Video still has quite the selection. He also allows trading if there in good condition. What to do with your old video cassette tapes? He'll buy and trade those too.

Amazing selection. Amazing prices. Owner(s?) was very helpful. This is a cinephile physical media addicts candy land. Box sets, VHS’s, magazines, 4ks, steelbooks. Asked for criterion collection and he brought criterion dvd’s I hadn’t seen before in person. Thanks for keeping this medium alive. You have my continued support.

Love going to Captain Video. Ira is awesome and has some very unique and historic videos, DVDs, tapes, music, movies-hard to find items. Great place to hang out and chat about music and movie history!

Really sad to be posting such a low review. I had high hopes for this place- I’m a huge huge huge fan of VHS tapes and so a local spot with tons of stock- how could this not be cool!? I walked into the store and it looked exactly how I had imagined- walls covered in old posters- tapes lining the walls- perfection. The issue was the employee that helped me- he was so standoffish and rude- absolutely made it impossible to have a good time. Not just quiet (that would be fine) he was genuinely insulting. Shame- seemed like such a radical spot. The other reviews are glowing so maybe I caught them on an off day but I won’t be back.

Went there this afternoon and found a lot of amazing hard to find movies and shows! A gem from the bay!

My family and I have gone to Captain Video since I was a child. Ira Belfor the owner was kind enough to hire me in my mid teens as a clerk for my first job. Ira always has Captain Videos doors and ears open for all visitors and customers. Ira also specializes in finding all movies past or present for his customers! IF THERE IS A MOVIE in any category YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, THIS MAN WILL FIND IT FOR YOU!
