Adam & Eve Stores

I went into Adam and Eve in Wilmington NC on September 20th with my best friend to purchase one item and the experience was very disappointing. The staff working that day were extremely uptight and not welcoming at all. My best friend lightly tapped me with a paddle, something you would naturally want to feel before considering a purchase, and instead of handling it in a friendly or fun manner one of the employees gave us attitude and told us not to hit each other. This is a sex toy store geared toward adults and yet the atmosphere felt judgmental and rigid rather than comfortable and enjoyable. I have had much better experiences at similar stores where the staff were fun, approachable, and made the shopping experience lighthearted. Unfortunately that was not the case here and I left feeling uncomfortable and will not be returning.

I've been coming here for awhile now because i don't like the Jacksonville store. Well i came in with a literal miniature bookbag LITERALLY MINATURE and im immediately approached by an employee with pigtails saying they have a LARGE bag policy and that they were going to take my bag and put it behind the counter. So i left and put my bag in the car because that made me so uncomfortable. I came back and tried to browse but i felt so uncomfortable by the initial interaction i ended up leaving. I will not be coming back. Not to mention I was the only person of color in there so that felt even more targeted. I'll never come back here again. Not even a greeting just treated unfairly.

Relaxing atmosphere, knowledgeable and laid back employees. Great prices and decent selection of toys and lingerie! Don't be a pus$y, go in and browse to your hearts content ;).

So my boyfriend shopped at this store often. Adam and Eve in Wilmington. He bought me a teddy which was on the mannequin. the sales lady took it off the mannequin wrapped it . This store has a policy if the underwear are not attached to the teddy you can’t return it. They did not give this information to my bf. When I opened it I realized it was too small so I went to the store to exchange. They said no because the underwear are not attached even though they admitted that they sold it to me that way and made a mistake by not telling him he could not exchange it. So they went against their own policy and we are out 60.00 dollars with no recourse. We will never go there again and I’m not done with this yet.

came in to get items for a shoot. Brought two girlfriends with me and the First Lady that helped us was so wonderful and sweet. We were in a back section looking at toys for women (we were all intending to purchase something and I had items already picked out) and an old lady employee came over and told us we needed to "act grown" or we were going to get kicked out. We were laughing, but it was because we were talking about our own personal stories with the items amongst ourselves and she certainly couldn’t hear our conversation based on how she approached us. She made us feel extremely uncomfortable because she trailed behind us the rest of the time giving us dirty looks. I put my items back and left because I will not be buying merchandise from a store with rude, inconsiderate employees. We are all in our mid to late 20s as well - certainly "grown".

Buyer beware. All sales are final at this franchise owned store. No refunds, no exchanges, no exceptions. Do yourself a favor and order from the website which does accept returns. I found out the hard way and wasted $130. Also don’t be influenced by the "owner’s response". I did follow up and sent a detailed message to the email address provided as requested and never got a response.

My husband and I came into this store excited to shop and support a local business that we have purchased from before, but we were immediately made to feel unwelcome. I was asked to leave my purse at the front — something I’ve never been asked to do in any store like this — and while I was trying to be understanding and did do what she asked, things only got worse. The employee then proceeded to follow us around the store the entire time, making it painfully obvious they thought we were going to steal something. Anytime we showed interest in an item she felt the need to approach us and ask if we needed help after telling her multiple times we did not need assistance. It was awkward, invasive, and frankly, insulting. We weren’t doing anything suspicious — just browsing like any other customer. The whole experience felt judgmental and discriminatory. If this is how they treat paying customers, I’d rather take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of adult stores that offer a more respectful and comfortable environment. We have shopped many Adam & Eve stores with a wonderful experience and was completely let down at our local store. The employees there have no business working at an adult toy store where it is an intimate shopping experience. It’s no wonder this store is always empty after the experience we just had. It’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to shop somewhere with such suspicion and lack of respect.
