Great atmosphere! The decor made it feel like a little tapas shop in Europe. There's so many knick knacks on the walls, on display, that every where you turn, you discover something new and exciting. The owners were so friendly, attentive and made great recommendations. My mom saw the giant jug of sangria and took a closer look to see what type of fruits were inside, then they offered her a little cup (1-2oz) to sample. This night was a celebration; we celebrated the January babies and my cousin's recent engagement. There were 7 of us. The restaurant was packed and it didn't seem crowded. We ordered 2 paella (squid ink and the steak), the taste of Barcelona board, and a bunch of tapas to share. We didn't get to try any of the crostinis, it'll be saved for next time. We tried the octopus, gnocchi, scallop, escargot, patatas, Brussel sprouts and a pitcher of sangria. Everything was delicious. Only drawback was the escargot. We had the expectation it'd be the French way smothered with garlic butter over a little bed of mash potato, but it wasn't. It was coated in parmesan. I didn't care for it, but that's just me.
It’s a lovely little Spanish tapa place. Very cute ambience almost feels like in Spain. Very intimate atmosphere. A great selection of cold and hot tapas. Paired with their house made sangria. All the food was delicious with amazing presentations. The service was very attentive. What’s not to like?!
Another keeper! We've been coming to Amour Amour for 12 years, and never a disappointment (although, we no longer live in San Mateo and haven't been here for several years). The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and brings us back to our time spent in Barcelona, Spain. We were very lucky and got a reservation for New Years Eve (2025 to welcome in 2026). The food was delicious, tapas the right size to share, and the service very good. The Sangria was very good and went well with all our plates. Highly recommended. We started out with Sachet de Prosciutto, Black Truffle Mushroom on Crostini, and Beet Salad. Yummy all the way around, but wanted more greens and less cabbage with the Beet salad (personal preference). We continued on with Escargot, Gnocchi (stuffed with black truffle), and Patatas Bravas. Again, yummy all around. Unfortunately, as we've gotten older our stomachs are no longer able to cram in all the delicious foods we want, and we left very satisfied, happy with our meal, the folks in the restaurant, and looking forward to our next visit to Amour Amour!
Cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We didn’t have a reservation, so we sat at the bar, which turned out to be nice. The octopus is very unique and thinly prepared — definitely the signature dish. Other small plates are also worth trying.
Such a quaint little shop with lots of decorations and things to see. I also liked how chill the restaurant was compared to hectic and busy downtown san mateo. I was actually able to have conversations while dining. Street parking was not too difficult to find. They are a tapas restaurant so we tried 7 out of 8 tapas they offered. Octopus, shrimp, potatoes were the best. Pork belly was kind of Asian? It tasted like five spices lol Meatball was way too salty so I don’t recommend. Gnocchi had a lot of herbs so i think some people might like it more than others. Their baked brie appetizer was on par! We enjoyed trying all the dishes, looking around their decorations, and being able to chat. Would definitely go back
Came here yesterday to celebrate our anniversary. It was a pleasant experience to dine here. Service was great. Food was great too. We ordered 6 dishes and they were all delicious. The only negative this g is that their portion was on the smaller size of the spectrum.
We didn’t have a reservation on a Friday evening there weren’t any tables for walk-ins. But they had room at the "bar table" (no bar but it’s a bar table).
