Cal Sailing Club

This sailing club is a real gem. It’s affordable, adventurous, and filled with a welcoming community that makes you feel right at home on the water. I especially love the women’s sail days, they create a supportive space to learn, grow, and just have fun out there. The fact that it’s run entirely by volunteers makes it even more special, you can tell everyone is passionate about sailing and sharing that passion with others.

Most of my friends are from here… joined the club to sail for cheap. Stayed on for the community. I don’t know of any organization that has kept me involved for so long. Great experience all around and super inclusive of all levels and abilities. Strong recommend.

This is a great place to learn how to sail or windsurf and make friends. There is a strong sense of community and a co-op feel. It's a volunteer-run organization but works remarkably well because the members are so committed to one another and the community. And, you can't beat the price!

This is a magical place, and a treasure of the East Bay. An inclusive, diverse community of sailors and windsurfers, operating in a loosely-organized, slightly-chaotic way to share the joy of sailing with as many people as possible. Absolute best deal in the Bay area for anyone interested in learning to sail or getting out on the water as more than a one-off afternoon. The membership fee is a modest ~$150/3 months (less for students) and there's no charge for lessons or rentals. Volunteer hours can pay for your membership, too: As a mission-driven organization, they want your skill and your time more than your money.

Great place to learn with a super low budget! Equipment and class all covered in membership which you can use volunteer hours to maintain. Even free food a lot!

Sam was a great instructor. He had us practicing tacks. I really enjoyed our time on the water.
