Hunter Hill Rest Area

Ya. 1 hour through the drive from Folsom towards Sanfransisco, you hit Hunter Hill. Amazing rest area, a lot of memories. Then you draw the fresh air of Vallejo. Your bowels move. You use one of so many restrooms, men's, women's, family's, and unisex' restrooms. Plenty of parking. Plenty of shaded seating areas. Ya, California is beautiful. And we are lucky we live here. This is the rest stop I always stop at with my kids - it’s the best place to stop to go potty before getting into San Francisco. Unfortunately the last few times over the last year the bathrooms have been pretty nasty and the doors broken (some of the toilets broken too) Prior to that things have always been really clean and kept well maintained - so I’m not sure what’s going on. There have also been homeless sleeping in cars in the parking lot too. The view is beautiful when the sun is setting on Hwy 50. (Watch out for CHP)

The Hunter Hill Rest Area on Interstate 80 is one of the best freeway rest areas, in my opinion. It has enough parking spaces every time when I am there. The restrooms are so close to the parking lot. The rest area also has a beautiful view from the top of the hill over the City of Vallejo and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. I loved the views and enjoyed the beautiful area.

What a view, it was really hot the day we went, so photos are a bit hazy. Visiting from England, so this view took my breath away. Stunning. Could even see the Golden Gate Bridge

The Hunter Hill rest area has wonderful landscaping with tons of roses. The women’s bathrooms were clean and well stocked. There were 6 normal stalls and one handicapped one. The mosaic in the bathroom was designed interestingly. There is a very good view of the Vallejo area from the picnic area. The picnic tables are all under a big roof that casts shade for a respite from the hot sun. The trees in the parking area also cast nice shade for the cars

I’m neutral about this place. It’s the go-to rest stop for those heading to the bay. There were people sleeping in their cars, but no one bothered me. Bathrooms are clean and the trashcans are never full. There are sensor flushing and sinks. Just wished visitors would stop breaking the vending machine, graffitiing, and destroying the bathrooms. Let’s keep this place nice for everyone.

We usually do a quick stop before heading back to san Francisco from lake Tahoe. The area was well maintained and seems safe at night. We have a dog which is dog friendly. They offered poop bag and large area for you and your pup to relax. The restroom was cleaned. We saw some police office car in and out as well.
