HeatSync Labs

LGBTQ friendly!! This place is a great community hub and resource to self teach with people around who help where they can! While not perfect (it’s a hackerspace none of them are lol) the space has a lot of resources and great community volunteers that step up to make sure stuff gets done! Don’t go in thinking this place is a service, you get what you put in. It’s a community first and space second. It’s run on the principle of do-ocracy and rock on and be excellent to eachother. Basically shape the space however you want, build what you want, but be mindful that it’s a shared space 🤘

I met with one of the members here and they were very friendly and welcoming. If you're a hobbiest of any of the things they do here, you hit the jackpot! Even if you have no experience at all, this is a great place to learn!

Want to learn to use a 3D printer, laser cutter, or soldering iron? You could spend a lot of money getting the equipment at home and learn the hard way. Or you could take a class here! HeatSync is a grass-roots effort run by friendly and helpful volunteers. It's awesome and this kind of space is becoming far too rare.

This is a great place to work on all of your projects. I highly recommend coming in during open hours and checking the place out.

The Biochemistry Lab has fallen into a sad state over years of little use. Saw that HeatSync had a Biochem Lab on their wiki and is listed as participating in DIY bio online so decided to check it out. The lab is a small area that is currently being used for overflow storage (mops, boxes, old equipment, etc). The space was cluttered; there was dirty glassware with some questionable residue caked on one flask and an unknown tan liquid in another. The area was not well ventilated, lab coats are not available, it was unclear if the sink worked, and there are neither eye wash stations nor safety showers available. Would love to see the space revived, but kindly suggesting for now that HeatSync not advertise that a biochem lab is available in their building. Staff was engaging and welcoming.

Well organized, many stations to work on and communicate about your project, locals seem genuinely helpful. Very cool well stocked space.
