Central Rock Gym - Harvard Square

Great space, great yoga classes, huge bouldering wall, clean bathrooms, super friendly staff, great climbing progression classes and often freebies from local vendors in the mornings. Lovely community of climbers. No top ropes at all but always stuff to do and try. They are part of a franchise so you can use any location in the network and all gear is included in memberships and day passes. Great deal generally and you can always get a new member discount.

The air quality in this gym has become very bad recently, somehow it doesn't seem like there is enough air circulation. You can see chalk dust floating in the air and dropping down through vents. While I love the climbing routes here (kudos to the setters), the air quality is making me having second thought about continuing in this gym. For the price of the membership we are charged, the air quality is much worse than other gyms I have been to where they have some air filtration system (even portable ones). Please install air filter (even portable ones) to filter out the chalk dust and improve the air quality in the gym.

This is gym is clearly new with good workout equipment and helpful staff. However, there are a couple of issues. The climbing routes are crowded so you are often waiting in line to actually climb. The routes are mostly just vertical and simple, lacking creativity and the problem solving aspect of bouldering. The holds are used up and slippery. Overall, it is quite crowded and there aren’t that many routes to climb. There also isn’t a warmup area or a changing room. The daily pass is 34$ (without shoes) which is quite expensive for a one time visit. This gym has a lot of potential but is currently not worth the steep price.

Phenomenal bouldering, Location large number of problems of varying difficulty from beginner to expert. Free chalk to use, gym, equipment, and cardio equipment. Parking is difficult to find but aside from that great location.

Frequently 75+ degrees F in the winter. Upper management won’t allow employees to adjust the temperature inside. I gave this place 4 stars in a different review, I’m going to adjust that to 1 star right after this.

I've been going to central rock (muliple locations) for close to 12 years and have loved it. This gym in particular hasnt had treadmills in over a year. staff has been incredibly sincere but seems that general management has 0 care for its customers.

Great spot for bouldering. Lots of different routes for all skill-levels. The manager Che was incredibly friendly and helpful, showing us the space as there wasn’t much traffic. It was also nice to see how she patiently trained a new stuff member, while making us feel very welcome at the same time.
