What a gem, especially with such historic and cultural meaning for the LGBTQ+ community! The food, wine list and service were all excellent. The food was better than I expected, especially their salad and steak. The beet salad was amazing and the steak was cooked to perfect medium rare. We enjoyed the chicken liver toast, which pared beautifully with the gamay we got. Moreover enjoyed the cavatelli pasta dish we got with calabrian peppers (don't see if on the online menu now). Finally, we finished with the basque cheesecake, which is my favorite cheesecake. Could be a bit more caramelized but enjoyed every bite. I was told they had an interesting wine menu and they did. They got me at Gamay but had another Spanish Red, Trepat, I have never had that was somewhere between a pinor noir and a sancerre rouge chilled. Also had the Cinsault, I didn't get to try yet. We had a great server who fit the vibe. Welcoming and friendly and kept with the temp of our meal. Also the atmosphere is like a big clean pub and great people watching, especially the week before Halloween when all the costume parties start from DTLA to WeHo!
Cute place. Walked in. Sat at the bar. Ordered a drink and was asked if I wanted to open a tab. I said no I want to order food. I ordered fish and chips. Was again asked if I wanted to keep my tab open. I said no and was presented with a bill before my food came. What is this McDonald's? I was told that this place was a bar and thus you pay or keep a tab. No I'm sitting at the bar of a restaurant. So odd. Never been asked to pay before my food came anywhere in the world. Asked for water and didn't get it. Asked someone else and got a glass and a carafe of water. Not poured for me. Fish and Chips were fine but chips were more frites than chips. I guess it's fine if you live in the area and can walk there. No need to travel to go there.
My first time here and I absolutely loved the food, the steak was probably the best I've had in a while. The Mac and cheese was very tasty..not to mention the sweet potatoes, all very tasty Great service. Don't forget the bread pudding!
The dishes are delicious and well-presented. The meat is cooked to the perfect doneness. The burger was priced higher than at some other burger joints, but if you appreciate a more special flavor, it’s worth it.
Kind and welcoming service Fresh food Drink Flavors were amazing Chill dark atmosphere Very loud and booming with conversations
A good friend of mine suggested we meet here for a long overdue get-together. My first time here was pleasantly surprised that they allowed dogs inside the establishment. My friend had his dog and there were other patrons with their pet dogs as well. This is a really interesting and not to mention historical landmark. The Black Cat is known to be the site of the first documented LGBT civil rights demonstration in the nation held on February 11, 1967 which was declared by the city of Los Angeles in 2008 by the cultural heritage commission. We were greeted by a friendly and extremely accommodating host to our table (She gave water to dogs outside due to the hot weather) good job! Started off with a round of drinks which is highly recommended. Our server 'Mikey' was also friendly and extremely accommodating. They were playing some really cool 'Indie' music that was quite the treat as well. Our food was amazing and delicious. As shown in the photos. The restaurant is clean, organized, and their service was above and beyond. Me and my party were very happy to have come here. My wife & I were the only ones who paid our visit for the very first time. So like I do when the credit is due...The Black Cat gets 5 ⭐'s up, down, & all around. Thank you entire staff at the Black Cat, we will definitely be back for more!
Lovely, classic atmosphere. Deco historic. Historic LGBT site. Super friendly staff and attentive management. My boyfriend and I went on National Coming Out night, and they had a really lit party going on in their cordoned off outdoor space, and they brought the party inside with a DJ, still walkers, and other entertainment. The food was solid, and the drinks were great and affordable. They even had a sour on the menu, which is rare to find. And their crème brûlée was really well prepared. The vibes were great. Loved the classic, historic feel with young, vibrant and Silverlake-locals energy. We’ll be back!
