Woody's

📍 Gay bars in Philadelphia

5.6

Woodys offers a lively experience with a casual atmosphere downstairs and a dance floor upstairs. The friendly bartenders are a highlight, particularly those serving the downstairs area. Visitors can enjoy a variety of drinks, including the notable green tea shot. The establishment features a modern design with brick walls and large glass doors, creating an open and inviting space. However, it's important to be mindful of personal belongings due to reported incidents of pickpocketing.

The venue is ideal for casual drinks and dancing, with a non-smoking policy adding to its appeal. While the upstairs area can attract a mixed crowd, arriving early ensures free entry. Although the kitchen has been promised for months, it remains closed. Overall, Woodys provides a fun night out with a balanced mix of socializing and entertainment options.

Love a trip to woodys! It’s not the same as some queer elders experienced it but can still be fun! the downside of woodys is that once upstairs opens the straight men are trying to hit on girls ( queer ones at that) also pick pocketing is a HUGE issue here, your phone will be in china by morning if someone gets ahold of it. LOVE LOVE LOVEE the bartenders esp the downstairs ones! I would recommend woodys more for casual drinks downstairs but i’ve had some really great times dancing upstairs too! get there before upstairs opens for free entry! No food the kitchens been opening soon for months lol. DEFINITELY order a green tea shot here, it’ll get ya going for sure!

The last time I was here was years ago. We were walking on Pine Street and saw rainbow flags. Here's where my amnesia kicked in. I didn't recognize the bar because now there are big sliding glass door windows that spill out onto the sidewalk. My partner said they renovated years ago. And there's an upstairs too? What the... It was of course dead on Sunday night, but we had fun people watching and watching music videos. I love the brick walls and the big open doors. The bartenders were friendly. And I love that its non-smoking. The amount of beer taps deserved a picture! And the rainbow-colored Prism beer tap caught my eye. I got a free small sample but didn't like its fruity (haha) and flat tap taste. Tootled upstairs to refresh my mind. There was hip-hop/R&B thumping on the dance floor with a few patrons. OVERALL: Nice selection of bottle & drafts, good prices, and non-smoking.

I am giving 3 stars because it's a gay bar and I love that about it but this place is overcrowded, overpriced, over hyped, and underwhelming. $20 to get in the door is a bit much and then the drinks are so expensive on top of it. I will say they make the drinks strong so that kind of makes up for the drink prices and the atmosphere itself is neat with the separate themed bars. The thing about this place is you never know what it's going to be like inside. It might be full of gays who want to have a good time or it could be full of a bunch of women who go to the gay bar so they don't get hit on. I would be pretty disappointed and I have been if I pay $20 to get into this gay bar and then just to find out the crowd is not what I expected and then I'm out 20 bucks because I want to go somewhere else. I'm sure that there's a crowd that this place is good for, but for us it's just not it anymore for me. I'd rather go somewhere else where I don't have to make a deposit just to walk in the door. I think it would make more sense to me if they were charging a cover on nights that they had some kind live entertainment but just because seems a little odd to me. I'm pretty sure a lot of the other gay bars in town don't do that.

We noticed that Woody's had a lot of seats available. We decided to watch the game there. As I produced my Driver's license. I showed him the barcode. It scanned. Which works at other clubs. He asked to see my photo and pulled my license toward his chest. I felt a bit scared and said "hey give it back". He brought the license a bit closer and I grabbed the license and put it in my pocket. But I felt afraid. And we immediately left. What a change this place has had. My girlfriends and I used to stop here often. I probably won't ever return to Woody's.

Lets be abundantly clear: Woody's is no longer a gay bar. They've catered to the straight crowd for long enough, its not our bar anymore. At most, its a mid straight bar with a pride flag up.

It wasn’t very happening. Kind of dull, less crowd on a Friday night too. Dj wasn’t good. Kind of the opposite of what I expected. There was a 15 dollar entry fee for a not so happening place which didn’t make sense. I gave at-least 3 stars because bartenders are really sweet and offered great service.

I would only go here with a large group of people you trust. Creepy vibe all around. Lots of men praying on young women and even couples. It used to be so fun here. Also there was barely anyone there on a Saturday night. The music was hard to dance to.
