The Wandering Moose Tavern

📍 Gay bars in Raleigh

6.2

The Wandering Moose offers a rustic mountain lodge atmosphere with a patio that serves food from the original truck, ensuring consistent quality. The Black Angus brisket sandwich and cheese curds are highly recommended, with a variety of dipping sauces adding to the flavor. The location is easy to find but may be a bit inconspicuous, and the inviting staff contribute to a pleasant experience.

However, some visitors have noted that the establishment feels more like a bar, with a grungy environment due to lottery machines and a less clean appearance. The food truck staff and truck could be better maintained, and service can be slow. Despite these issues, the beer is refreshing, and the bartender is friendly, making it a mixed but overall enjoyable experience.

We used to get the black angus brisket sandwich back when the Wandering Moose was just a food truck. Now that they have a brick and mortar location we wanted to give it a try and see if they were still up to snuff. The location is easy to get to but a little inconspicuous. Happy to say that the food was great. The stuff was super inviting. The atmosphere feels like something you would get in a mountain lodge. Really enjoyed the patio where you can order food from the original truck. Happy to see the food quality is consistent. I recommend the black angus brisket sandwich and the cheese curds (nicely fried with 3 dipping sauces. Basil pesto sauce and chipotle sauce were really tasty).

Husband ended up sick after eating here - We didn't realize it was primarily a bar based on photos and reviews. It did not feel clean and the staff were rude (with the exception of the bar tender). You order your food from a food truck outside where the staff and truck were not well kept and immediately felt unsafe to eat here. Despite our gut feeling, we tried it anyway and while the food was good, my husband is now sick from his dinner. The lottery machines inside also made the environment feel "grungy". Just giving a heads up to anyone considering.

I had a great time at The Wandering Moose. The beer was exactly what you want it to be - good, cold, and refreshing - and the bartender was friendly and welcoming. Table service was available, though a bit on the slower side, which made sense since there were only two people working (as far as I could tell) the whole place. Luckily, it was easy to just pop up to the bar for quicker service when needed. The highlight for me was the outdoor seating area - it was perfect for a (fake) fall evening. The atmosphere reminded me of the small-town bars I loved back when I lived in Florida: relaxed, casual, and just the right amount of laid-back charm. Overall, this spot is a great place to enjoy a few drinks, especially if you appreciate a cozy outdoor vibe and don't mind a touch of self-service.

Give it a visit. The food is sold/served from the truck outside, bar is inside. I had the Philly and it was excellent. Highly recommend!

My wife and I really enjoyed the meatloaf sandwich, but her fries and my chili cheese fries were so over salted, our mouths were raw and burt in just a few bites. We had been her about 8 months ago and just remembered after earring here again how much they love to over salted the fries. Great food combos, just lay off the salt the boys!

I love this place! The food is so tasty and the prices are great. The outside area is awesome. Everyone that works there is friendly. I’m really lucky this is close to my house.

Great place to let loose and have safe fun. Live music and different events to promote sports. Enjoy a night out with your spouse. Brisket is really good.
