Best Shows In SF: from drag, burlesque to everything in between. Oasis is a safe welcoming place for all. Baloney, a fav we first saw at Outside Lands! Loved this place ever since!
Situated in SoMa/Folsom, OASIS is a well-known gay bar that often hosts themed nights and drag shows. However, the Black Friday/Thanksgiving weekend experience was a mixed bag. Ambience: Friendly vibes with a slightly more relaxed energy. Not overly crowded, but still engaging. Decor: Retro-chic with a versatile performance space that caters to diverse themes. Check out their Rooftop alfresco seating especially during warmer months. Crowd: Welcoming and inclusive, though the numbers were low for a holiday weekend. Drinks: Specialty cocktails are a standout, and the drinks pack a punch. Entertainment: The drag performance leaned heavily on 50s and 60s music, which might not appeal to everyone. The real stars of the night were the go-go boys, who brought dynamic dance moves and acrobatics that wowed the audience. Music: Themed music tied to the drag performance; nostalgic but may not suit modern tastes. Pro Tips: Be prepared for the $30 cover charge (drinks not included). Grab a strong cocktail and find a good spot to enjoy the go-go boys. Overall: OASIS SF offers a mix of performances and cocktails, though the experience may depend on the theme of the night. Worth visiting for the go-go dancers and friendly atmosphere, but the steep cover charge could be a downside.
Classic spot for drag shows. Bathroom is large and, despite the long lines, moves pretty quickly. Has a coat check and two bars. The hidden gem is definitely the rooftop — and they livestream the main stage so you won’t miss any performances! 😂 It’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s part of what makes it so fun. Nothing like a classic grungy SOMA drag club!
If you are visiting the 11th Street & Folsom area for a late night party vibe, then Oasis should be on the list. The crowd is always livelier than most and the drag & costumes are Vegas quality. Friday and Saturday are great times to visit.
What a terrible venue! The stage is small and the ceilings are low... On top of that, add a mass packed crowd. I couldn't see a darn thing! Hardly any air-conditioning in the standing room. Go outside to the main bar and the video quality of their TV feeds us awful. If you go to the roof, it's nice and airy until you encounter cigarette smokers.
It's sad there aren't any other spaces for queer youth to enjoy the bubbly drag scene now that Oasis is closing but the truth is this space was never a paradise. This year the security obviously hated their jobs. They let folks injure themselves but once outside the door they're "not our problem" they said. The bartenders are always outright abusive to customers and other staff and there have been many racist incidents that don't make headlines. It's nice that they had one night a month for BIPOC drag but it was VERY obvious the events were the only spaces "for us" and we Black folks were "tolerated customers" on every other night. Staff I spoke to told me they didn't get benefits or breaks but hey- capitalism is king so I'm not surprised. White-centered queer spaces are usually like that. Maybe if they ran this place more like an inclusive community and less like a piggy bank they'd have more loyal clientele that would have saved them from losing their business.
UTAHNS DENIED ENTRY WITH VALID LICENSES. Turned away for having no UV pattern. After being denied, our ID’s were verified at club "Beaux". We returned with video proof of UV patterns and still denied entry at "Oasis". Illegitimate security UV lights, unprofessional security staffing. (Photo 1 taken @ "Beaux". Photo 2 taken @ "Oasis".)
