Murphy's Townhouse Cafe
Murphy's Townhouse Cafe in Stamford offers a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere, making it a popular gathering spot. The venue is known for its friendly staff and consistent dishes, with standouts like the elite chili cheese fries and miso marinated cod. Patrons often commend the service, particularly the attentiveness of bartenders like Tony and Dan, who contribute to the homey feel.
However, the quality of service can be inconsistent. There have been instances of delayed service and preferential treatment, which can detract from the overall experience. Very disappointing experience. After waiting over 10 minutes for service, people who arrived later were served immediately. When this was addressed politely, the bartender reacted aggressively and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and other substances. Running a business requires professionalism and stability. If this place wants to be taken seriously, it should be managed by someone sober, respectful, and capable of treating all customers equally.
Love this place! The staff is super friendly and always makes you feel like a regular, even if you’re not. The vibe is laid-back and welcoming — just a great place to hang out. Food is consistently solid, especially the staple items. It’s one of those spots you keep coming back to because it feels like home.
Elite Chili Cheese fries! Tony is the best Bar man in Stamford. Like one of the lads. Always smiling & never annoyed at anyone. Love the guy. Dan is an absolute Irish legend and has made Murphys a great place to have pints in.
Saturday lunch was relaxing. Cheers to the weekend and Ladies who lunch. 🥗 Caesar salad w focaccia crouton 🐟miso marinated cod, bok choy, shiitake and shishito peppers 🍝orecchiette short rib ragu, pancetta, grated cheese The restaurant was pretty with a nice atmosphere although I had mixed feelings about the food. My friends pasta dish was overly sauced and one of they key components described on menu wasn’t included. She hadn’t remembered until I pointed it after we left when I reviewed my photos. Her dish had way too much tomato sauce. While they offer lunch the menu wasn’t much different than dinner with same pricing. The Caesar salad was good. O would have appreciated more than one tiny piece of high quality anchovy and not such a large piece of croutons. My miso marinated cod was ok.
I was dining in with some friends at Murphy’s townhouse in Stanford. Food was great. All was going great till this "Karen" approached the table telling my group of people that the weed smell was strong from my table and asked if we were smoking. She said that here were kids in the restaurant . I was offended. I had no idea who she was. I figured if it was a customer who walked by. But this lady came back to my table and continued to harass and question us. My waiter was very kind and respectful. I was informed that it was the owner!!! And her name was Dawn. I will not give this establishment my business going forward. The fact the she came at me twice within 5 minutes. Horrible customer service from the owner.
We spent the weekend in CT for a small getaway and we are so happy we found this place! The bar was pretty full when we got there, but they have a section on the complete other side with booth and table seating. It was nice, because it was quiet and my boyfriend and I could talk while we drank. The service was also amazing. We had a server named Tim and he was extremely attentive but also quite personable. Overall, this was a great experience. Drinks were well made, food was delicious and fairly priced and the service was both friendly and efficient. Will absolutely be returning when we take our next trip to CT.
I went to this bar on a Monday night around 11 PM because Google Maps said they close at 1 AM. I just wanted to have a beer. When I arrived, the bartender (a young guy with glasses) completely ignored me and kept waving his hand at me to leave instead of actually talking to me. I tried to ask what time they were closing, and he finally came out and was extremely rude, just saying "we’re closed" in an aggressive tone. I told him I only wanted to know the closing time, and he snapped back saying he couldn’t hear me from inside, raising his voice for no reason. I told him he didn’t need to be a prick about it, and then he came out of the door acting like he wanted to start a fight. He told me to get off his property, called me a loser, and kept insulting me. All of this over someone trying to have a beer and ask a simple question. They literally threat me like a bump. It honestly felt like the bar was closed just so he could hang out inside with his friends. Very unprofessional behavior and terrible customer service. I definitely won’t be coming back. Maybe he was just being racist because I am very hispanic locking. It doesn’t matter. I guess is a white only place.
