Turnout Beach

Bright blue skies and monsoonal clouds greeted us at Turnout Beach today, 7/10/21. It's nice that there's a large dirt parking lot here, in case you can't find parking alongside PCH, which is pretty tough on weekends. We've been here twice, with today being the prettiest day, by far. Our other visit to Turnout Beach was on a bleak & dreary day. Atop the cliff overlooking Turnout Beach, there's ample room to bring your chair and sit & watch the surfers. There are several fairly steep, but do-able footpaths down to the beach & water here. Today, waves closed out pretty quickly, so no long wave rides were happening. Pelicans & seagulls flew past us regularly, at the perfect viewing height. The cliff top is an incredible vantage point to observe the coastline in both directions at Turnout Beach. The dirt parking area is near where Palomar Airport Rd. spits you onto PCH, but if you choose this road to get to the beach, you must go past it, in either direction, and U-turn back to it, due to the way the road loops you around the parking area, and onto PCH.
