Stonesteps

This is a great spot to access the beach on the north side of Moonlight Beach Park in Encinitas. The entrance is a steep, but manageable, climb up/down 118 steps (by my count) Handrails are available the entire way, but use caution, as the steps can be very slippery when wet. ​ Once you reach the bottom, you'll find a quiet stretch of beach with soft sand and great surf. There are a few parking spots at the top of the stairs, or you can look for free street parking nearby.

An absolutely beautiful place to watch the sun set. The beach area isn’t busy or crowded and is clean.

Our favorite locals beach! Yes, lots and lots of steps makes it difficult to carry a bunch of stuff down to the beach (and back), but this often deters many from coming to this beach - which makes it very rarely crowded. While many other surrounding beaches may be covered with rocks, Stonesteps usually has nice sand and no rocks.

The water was clear, cold, and gorgeous. There were surf lessons taking place, lots of people playing volleyball. This is a perfect place for families with children of various ages as there’s a small spillway that is reminiscent of a baby pool. Only major downfall was parking. We arrived at 9:30 and there wasn’t any parking within a block any way. We are a family with multiple disabilities (asthma, cystic fibrosis, amputee, tachycardia and autism) and we had to walk pretty far to reach the water.

Nice beach access. Was a cool cloudy day when I went, so it wasn’t too crowded. Good waves, so there was a lot of surfers. Parking will definitely be an issue when it’s busy. No dogs allowed.

RE-OPENED PER JUNE 21 2023!!! A great area to access the beach. Free street parking in the neighborhood. It's a good starting point for beach walks during low tide, to either Moonlight Beach or Grandview
