Sherwood Island State Park

Great place to walk. You can take a full loop that goes from wooded area back out to beach promenade. Quiet and not crowded. Almost 3+ miles in total. Great way to burn some calories and enjoy some peace. There is restroom facilities so pretty easy if you need to go. I only wish there were some food available for purchase but otherwise pretty awesome place.

Very pleasant place for a nice family gathering or fishing. Parking is free for CT-registered cars. For others there is a fee. There are some signs scattered in the park where you can pay with your phone using a QR code. It's not obvious at the entrance. The park is nicely maintained, including a 9/11 memorial. Lots of green areas, BBQ places, good beach, and some restrooms. The horizon is wide, the ocean view is peaceful, there are clear signs to separate fishing and and swimming areas. Go out there on a sunny day, you'll enjoy it! Just watch out for what the geese left behind in the dirt...

We visited during the off season (Nov) but on a warm 66° day. The Sound was calm and clear. The beach was empty other than a few other people walking. It's a nice park. Would definitely visit again!

Sherwood Island State Park is a fantastic spot for photography! The mix of sandy beaches, grassy dunes, and sweeping views of Long Island Sound offers endless photo opportunities. Today I stood at the edge of Sherwood Island State Park, where the sea meets the sky—and memory meets silence. 🌊🌲 The 9/11 Living Memorial here is more than stone and inscription. It’s a space of reflection, framed by trees and facing the Manhattan skyline, where the twin towers once stood. On that tragic day, smoke from the World Trade Center was visible from this very spot. Now, the memorial honors the 161 souls with ties to Connecticut who were lost, and the thousands more whose lives were forever changed. I walked the quiet paths, sat on the granite benches, and let the wind carry my thoughts. It’s a place that invites you to pause, remember, and feel. Free entry for cars with CT plates. Nice beach for sitting with lots of shaded picnic tables and grills across the park. Easy going on a weekday. The water is the Connecticut sound so take that with what you will.

This was our first time here and we loved it. Super clean beach, lots of space. Only complaint is the rules by the water. The kids were not allowed to bring anything in to play with. Not even a ball or Frisbee like most beaches allow. Aside from that my kids had a great time and we will be back.
