I’ve been a member for about two years and as a working class adult with no kids this place is pretty terrible in my personal opinion..aside from the locker room always smelling bad or old dudes with their Richard Nixon out, I come there to play basketball and it’s even a hassle to do that sometimes.. whether it’s them making you give your state ID just to use a basketball or slipping on the court because it hasn’t gotten waxed in god knows how long I can’t even get a good basketball workout in without getting kicked off the court because they don’t have another space for the kids to do activities in..atp I’m almost at the point of canceling my membership
I love this YMCA. People are extremely nice and want to help you out. Never had any issue with the service- have actually found the staff and team members to be quite accommodating of me and my young son- and love the classes (for myself and my son). Really great vibe and great options.
UPDATE: I canceled my membership. I joined for the pool and have been disappointed. They gate-keep the heated pool, reserving it mainly for adults with children. Adults without kids who can’t do weekday/weekend early mornings can only access the heated pool in the evening for 1.75 hours per week: 1 hour open swim and 45 minutes aqua zumba which is really water aerobics set to music. Also the staff is pretty rude. I will give it another month (which is my free month as part of the sign-up promotion) after posting this review to see if they make more time available weekday evenings and weekends during the day for adults without kids before I cancel my membership.
Main reason I got this membership was for the pools. So it’s extremely disappointing they seem to make no accommodations for working adults who don’t have children. Most swims are family swims for people with kids. It’s hard to get to use the pool because they hardly have any adult swims. When I signed up I had no walk through to learn the building. And I was told to cancel or pause would require a 15 day notice. Absolutely ridiculous. Thinking I may let my membership go because I am not available for the few times they allow adult swim. Seeing as many others complain and they don’t seem to care enough to change it shows they don’t care about customer feedback.
My English isn't very good, but the staff were very patient and helpful. And I also enjoyed my first free trial. I think their pools and showers are clean and lifeguards are also very concerned about our swimming conditions.
If you enjoy locker rooms where men shower with the curtains wide open while making direct eye contact with every lucky passer by, then this is the locker room for you! Don't forget to take in the view through the big window on the sauna door—where you should feel free to spreadeagle your towel-less turkey waddle directly facing the window for all to appreciate. Thank you mystery man! Gobble gobble! While down there, make sure to check out all the octagenarian athletes' impressive balls. A bunch of naked old guys standing around reminiscing—likely about prison showers and 1950s locker rooms— for an hour or two, really makes you appreciate how important it is to stop and enjoy the little things. Who said there's no more 3rd spaces left in the city? 5 stars is way too low for all that you get. Some clubs charge a $20 cover and you still have to buy drinks! I highly recommend spending the extra few dollars to splurge on the citywide membership.
Friendly and helpful staff, clean facility - they still have post COVID-19 glass separating staff from anyone who's walking in. This YMCA has locker rooms (you'll need to only bring your lock), changing rooms, not only sauna like in Finland (dry steam room) but also Russian style sauna, showers with doors with locks from inside for privacy, swimming pools of various depths levels and a gym. During the Labor Day weekend YMCA provided access citywide due to cleaning and maintenance of the swimming pool at some other locations. This location had one of the pools still open, which was great.
