I cannot say enough good things about it here. Everyone was so friendly. Cabin was very clean and honestly the bed in there was probably the most comfortable of any cabin I’ve been in at a campground. Rory was the absolute best at the restaurant and I know it sounds crazy to recommend a hot dog but it was the best hot dog I’ve had in my whole life. My only complaint is that people do not seem to understand keeping your pets on a leash at all times (while also holding that leash!) and cleaning up after your dogs. People like that ruin it for the rest of us. Someone dog literally ran onto our site and the people just laughed and said my bad. Dogs are never as trained as you might think. At home by all means let them run but public places…. Stop. Also it’s so disrespectful to not clean up their poop and it’s part of the reason some campgrounds do not allow pets. That’s the only thing that got to me. This was overall the best experience I have had a campground other then something that is not even the campgrounds fault. I really wish I could comment on some of these ridiculous reviews from people who clearly should have stayed at a hotel instead of a campground.
I have to say I was very underwhelmed at this KOA. The staff was very kind!! We camp every October at different campgrounds because they do such a fantastic job with Halloween Activities and Scary fun stuff. Not here, they had no activities. The camp sites didn’t even know there was trick or treating. If you are a halloween camper go to another campground! My cabin was disgusting!! For $299 a night I was infested with gnats , filthy and full of dog fur. I covered every drain and sprayed, I lost the battle. The roof is leaking. The ac in the living room was loud and didn't work. Zero air flow in the smaller room my kids couldn’t even sleep in there. My husband and one kid left early. If you get cabin 813 immediately ask to move. In the end definitely not worth what we paid for the cabin. I could see paying that in summer but they have zero Fall activities.
We rented an "oyster point" 2 bedroom cabin. We were really disappointed with the cleanliness of the cabin for the price. We spent over $250/night on this cabin. The floors did not feel clean (our socks were black and sticky after walking around inside), there were no sheets on the guest bed (and no pillow cases for that bed at all- also no airflow or vent present at all in the guest room) and the cabin was absolutely infested with gnats/fruit flies- coming from all drains etc. the couch was also covered in crumbs from previous guests and ripped in the corner with foam exposed. AC window unit (which is not used in the cabins any longer) was still present with a large gap in the window allowing more bugs inside. We came with our 2 dogs and our 1 year old daughter and ultimately left a night early due to the discomfort. In hindsight, a hotel would have been much more comfortable for the price. The Sunset Bar and Grille on site was also extremely un-accommodating for children, which is surprising given the Koa is advertised as family friendly. When we arrived the front desk staff also forgot to give us our key, after calling many times it took over 30min of waiting outside in the heat with our dogs & baby for someone to let us into our cabin. We had to flag down another staff on a golf cart to address it for us. We did enjoy the pool which had plenty of seating space. We did appreciate the dog friendly amenities as well and that is really the only perk to this campsite. The area did feel safe, although we didn’t really stay long enough to assess this. Overall, if you are with young children I would not recommend any of the cabins whatsoever.
We stayed this past weekend in a deluxe cabin in the 800's. First off, we loved the safety & freedom for all the kiddos, front office staff, and loved the beautiful beach! Unfortunately there are a couple of things needing addressed- the cabins were really gross. Our feet were straight black and we had to wear our shoes around from all the dirt & stickiness on the floors. There was also dog fur everywhere, like large tufts. Our kids ended up living on benadryl for 4 days, from the sheer amount of dog fur in the couches/beds/floor/porch. Super sad not feeling comfortable and cozy on vacation. Lastly, our entire family went to the bar on a slow, early Friday. The older bartender gal had zero joy for a fun bar scene, wouldn't grab a soda inside for my non-alcohol drinking father, and was very confused about our tab/ visibly annoyed with us. I promise you, we treated her with nothing but patience & understanding. It was such a bummer, especially since mama's and dad's don't get many opportunities to go out and have a fun night. We all ended up cashing out after 1 drink, after trying so hard to get her attention and care. I share this info simply for the good of this park. We LOVED this place and really hope more love & care goes into the *very expensive* cabins.
Our family of four stayed here in April for a long spring break weekend, We rented a deluxe cabin. We were pleasantly surprised at how well the campground was maintained. The cabin was clean and felt like it was on the newer side of being built. Our cabin had a kitchenette, a small out door deck. The campground has a beach on the Chesapeake bay side and we also were pleasantly surprised as to how nice this beach was. We were expecting a more rocky lake like beach but the sand was quite nice and felt more like an ocean beach even though it was on the bay side. Although we had great weather the pool was not open yet for the season, (end of May), but looked very nice and new. Off site we went to the parks near by which also had nice beaches and into the actually town of Cape Charles which is an adorable town with nice shops, restaurant and another really nice beach. We would definitely return.
The front desk was excellent, taking our reservation just moments before closing time. We stayed a Sunday and Monday night. The place was not at all crowded. The pool is gorgeous. Beach access is a gem. Dog beach Sandy Paws is a short stretch of beach with lovely sand, and water, calm and clean. Everyone I met there was pleasant.
We stayed 11/5&6/25 - Not peak season. This place was huge and had every kind of accommodation available. Our site was near the restrooms which were clean. All the fun activities had wrapped up for the season, but I could see having a lot of fun here in peak season. We did walk down to the beach - dogs had a great time!
