Discover an exceptional camping experience at Chabot Lake, offering 75 diverse sites to suit every preference. From convenient drive-in options for RVs, groups, and families to more secluded hike-in campsites, you'll find the perfect base for exploring the area. Many sites boast stunning panoramic lake views, while others are nestled in more private settings. The amenities are comprehensive and well-maintained, including flush toilets, hot water showers, and dedicated dishwashing/sewer disposal stations. Some campsites even offer the convenience of tap water, and all come with campfire pits. The facility is also commendably disabled accessible. Beyond the practicalities, I was pleasantly surprised by the presence of an amphitheater, which I suspect is used for engaging naturalist-led campfire programs. For connectivity, a telephone service is available for those with poor cell reception or in emergencies. The recreational opportunities are vast, with excellent options for hiking, biking, boating and fishing (permit required) in the lake. This is a truly remarkable location for quality time with family, friends, or a special partner. Dogs are permitted, but always remember to keep them on a leash. Highly recommended!
This hidden sanctuary of a park is located between Oakland and Castro Valley on Redwood Road. There are very few Redwoods in this park full of Eucalyptus trees. The park is planting native California oaks and California bay (laurel) trees to try to restore more native trees. The camping spaces are generous, there is a lot of wildlife, the nights are cool, the days pleasantly warm. There are great bike trails. The park looks down at Lake Chabot, and there are trails down to the lake and the boathouse and cafe. There are flush toilets and great showers. We spent a week here. It’s a tiny wilderness and you can hardly tell you are surrounded by a metropolis.
This is the best campground to get away "in your own backyard." The spots are a little close together and fitting 8 on one is quite cozy for most, but they have long drive-up spots that can accommodate small campers on the regular sites. All sites have table + camp ring and water and trash facilities are only a few steps away. There are a ton of trails well suited for walking or mountain bikes. Lots of wildlife including turkeys, hawks, deer, and squirrels.
I always wanted to come here. And I’m glad I did. I brought my drone with me and I took a video from above and a truly enjoyed the view. So calm and beautiful. 🫶🏼 Picnic tables and restrooms are clean. They have showers as well. I will definitely come back again. 😎
I love this campsite! The campsites are too far to each other. The bathroom & showers are so clean! I will give 5 stars to this campsite.
Sites 69 to 73 has lake view. Over all a nice place with good trails around them. Not very far from city but still peaceful. Though wish the bathrooms were more spread out for easier accessibility. Parking is free for the lake below for anyone camping but you need to drive down
A wonderful campground in the heart of the city. Very hilly. Lots of challenging hikes. No swimming. AT&T worked great. Our site had full hookups. Saw wild turkeys every morning.
