Our son just finished his 4th summer at Eagle Lake and can't wait to return. He loves the mountain biking, the white water rafting, and sleeping in the forest. He's OK being a little physically uncomfortable when it means fun activities and making new friends. It is not posh, so know what you're signing up for. He had the best camp counselor this year and was sad to leave. We're considering paying $700 for the honor of having him volunteer in service to the other kids as Crew next summer, and he said he'd like to be a camp counselor when he's in college. Eagle Lake is continuously the best part of his summer.
As a long time patron of Camp Eagle Lake Glen Eyrie, it’s sad to read all these negative reviews. Whoever is in control of this camp should hire me to bring it back to a 5 star status. Reach out if you’re interested!
PARENTS-- This is your warning.! This camp is NOT safe. Very poor supervision. The activities are led by poorly trained children (18 years old, but clearly still not of adult maturity). The food is barely edible and far from healthy. Your kids would be better off ANYWHERE else.
I paid for my grandson to go to Eagle Lake camping experience. it was so disappointed my spiritual growth started with a navigator 2:7 program and I was under the false impression that this would teach him personal discipleship and spiritual formation practices and how to spend time with God. He did not get any mentorship in this. Just traditional Bible lessons.
I went to camp this year (2017) as a Crew Camper, and it was fantastic! The leaders were great, campers were great, and the in depth discipleship is fantastic. Now, a few cons, not everyone who goes to Crew is a completely sold out Christian, but that goes for anyplace. The leaders are great, and the reason they leave the tents sometimes is because they have other things to do. The food is alright, but since its cooked largely by relatively inexperienced campers, its not always the best. Sleep is a pain, as we wake up at 5 or 6, but for those who are public schooled it shouldn't be a problem. All in all, if your kid really wants to go out there and serve, this is the perfect way to start. I strongly advise going here
If you are interested in giving your child a fun and rewarding Christian experience, this camp is the place to be. There are various positions one can have at the camp, i.e., as a camper for one week, as a crew member for several weeks, or as a counselor for several weeks, etc. Younger children start out as campers, and many will return several times as a camper. If they REALLY like the camp experience, they may volunteer to return at an older age to serve on the crew (in various positions). A more mature Christian may even serve later as a counselor. We have four children, and they have all been campers, and three have returned later to serve on crew or as a counselor. It has been our experience with our children, and other friends and relatives' children, that the camp is not only a lot of fun, but also, these latter servant positions can be even more life changing. The extended time with fellow crew and counselors for several weeks helps one to grow more in their faith, while developing more lasting relationships with others.
I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I was with this camp. I sent both my kids there on separate weeks. They both had a miserable experience. Don't get pulled in by all the different activities they list on their website - they will barely be allowed to do any of them. Zip line - one ride, water slide - one ride, rifle range - 3 shells -- ALL WEEK!!! Why do they even have these things? Is it just to taunt kids with all the activities they can look at? I would caution any parent with a special needs child to avoid this place at all cost. The inexperienced and inattentive staff will not be able to care for them. The counselor in my epileptic son's cabin was rarely there and the other boys found it amusing to try to induce a seizure by blinking their flashlights at him all night. The counselor would disappear all night. They succeeded. I was never notified, but at pickup this same counselor informed me that my son had trouble getting along with his cabin mates. This place has ruined the camp experience for both of my children who never want to try another camp again.
