Very nice campground, well maintained. It's very busy in the summer months, especially on the weekend. Nice place to paddle. Many people, unfortunately, dump their unwanted items in and by the dumpsters here. It's completely disrespectful. The Rangers and the staff aren't there to manage and throw away your trash. Please pack out what you bring in, especially mattresses, tents, and canopies. This isn't the place to dump them.
The South Bay was almost empty during our recent trip and the bathroom smell was overwhelming at times. Overall, I love this camp site but it's a bummer to get there and realize the water is almost gone when previously all the sites were waterfront.
The camping is a little crowded, but the pads are really nice all right next to the water and there are a lot of them. The lake is really pretty and there are many private little beaches where you can post up for the day if you don’t have a boat. The rangers are friendly and reasonable. $10 entry fee to horsetooth reservoir. I’d recommend checking it out especially if it’s your first camping trip. Easy to get to and it’s always fun to be on water camping. The dogs loved swimming on the hot day in June.
Nice drive through the mountains to get to the reservoir. There are picnic tables available throughout. Be careful while driving and becoming distracted by the views as there are areas that do not have a guardrail. I did not see anywhere where you can rent a boat, so I was bummed, but know better for next time.
The lake is beautiful. Many coves to take boats into. Plenty of spaces to find shoreline to swim and enjoy the lake. Definitely one of my favorite Colorado lakes.
Excellent large lake with a nice park next door! Plenty if room to relax and swim fish or have fun on the water. My favor place to go thus far with my boat. I will be there often even thought is an hour away. Enjoy!
The park is well maintained by the county, clean and monitored every hour. The camp host was awesome! The resevoir is extremely low so what used to be waterfront sites are no longer. On the flip side, we reserved a 40 ft spot as we are a big 5th wheel and dully truck, in total about 57 ft long. This is NOT big rig friendly although its advertised as such. The site was a "pull thru" but you had to turn around in a tiny area to be able to pull thru on the correct side. The sites have huge rocks used for parameters which gives you very little room and the actual site is not straight, its curved. Try pulling a 40 ft 5th wheel into a curved spot with big rocks on the sides ... not fun. The website should be updated and adjusted for what the park can accommodate. 30 ft rigs or smaller will do much better at this location than big rigs.
