Had an amazing stay—our campsite was perfect. We were lucky enough to hear and see a herd of bighorn sheep passing through at night, which was unforgettable. The showers had decent water pressure and temperature. I’d recommend visiting when it’s less crowded for the best experience. Road noise was minimal, though there were a few speed racers. Overall, I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10
Good campground in the park will all the amenities you could need. Shower pressure was not very good, but got the job done. Campground host was nice and campground (number 5) itself was small but cozy. If you’re looking for more room, I would recommend booking a site with a cabin or one of the interior sites. Campsite #1 also looked big. Great stars, and overall a good campground.
I'm not a camper myself and was invited to this campsite and to my surprise its well maintained and plenty 9f clean restrooms and showers (bring cash to get tokens for shower) each token gives you 5 minutes of running water (hot & cold) for showers. Cabins are pretty nice and can sleep 4-6 ppl . Bring plenty of drinking water with you and you won't regret it. I'll come again.
First time camping, loved the cabin! Very clean and well kept area. Easy access to road.
Be aware, if renting a cabin, there are no beds, no electricity, no water. It's just a shelter, and I'm not sure where 8 people would go. It fits 4 comfortably. If you're on the inside loop,, there is no privacy as all the fire rings are on the inside,, very close to one another. There is only cell service and wifi in certain places. The best part was the large bathroom which was clean and has private stalls.. It is across the street from Cactus Loop trail, which is beautiful (pics). If you go past mid-March, you will likely miss the superbloom.
We initially booked our reservation on the California State Park website. We have a 32' Class A motorhome and even specified that in the reservation form. However, when we arrived, we found out that the maximum length was only 21'! The website did NOT flag us as being too big. Luckily, we applied the new math and was able to squeeze 32' into a 21' site. The campground was quaint with lots of Tamerisk trees. The cabins are very basic with bunk beds. Most of these sites are really small and too close together. It doesn't leave a lot of privacy if that's what you're looking for. The Cactus and Yaqui Well trails were nice. You can go across the road and start at the trailhead. There is a Starlink and router mounted on the restroom building. We were able to use our RV wifi range finder to tap into it.
We had a great time at the campground! It's clean, well maintained, and beautiful. The one downside is how close all of the campsites are. The volunteers and the lady who works there (I forgot their names, sorry) are very friendly and knowledgeable! My service dog loved the camp as well. We ended up staying in a cabin which was definitely big enough for 3. I'd say a family with 2 adults and 4 kids could comfortably fit in a cabin. There is also tent camping sites, bathrooms with flushing toilets, and coin operated showers. The area surrounding the camp is gorgeous and the town of borrego springs isn't far from the camp so you should definitely check that out. It's really cute!
