I live in Redondo Beach, south of LAX and this is one of my favorite Campgrounds, close by, in Malibu near Point Magu. Just across Pacific Coast Highway from the beach in a canyon with coastal access safely under PCH. Sites are $45 per night with a one time service fee for your entire stay under $9. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with a grill. Nice clean restrooms and pay showers. No hookups but there are clean drinking water spouts available near your site. Very friendly rangers. They even drove around each campsite offering bundles of firewood for $10, cash only.

The campground is close to the beach, has large campsites, has large parking spaces at most campsites, has fire pits, and is clean. It's a great place to camp. My kids loved meeting new friends and playing from morning until well into the evening. If you want to get to the beach you either have to cross highway 1 or go under it at low tide. It is rocky under the bridge making it a little difficult to pass to the other side.

Loved this campground. Went for one night only and very much enjoyed it. We were close to the restrooms which was convenient and there was a safer trail to get to the beach. We also did a ~1 mile hike that overlooked the ocean. Overall great time

Hidden gem with bonus hiking trails and a fantastic beach just across the street. Campsites are close to each other but bathrooms were very clean, unlike the beach side. Tip, if your visiting for the day, just park on PCH (ocean side). If ya go into either parking lot, it'll be a few bucks. Bonus, there was water available at the site.

Peaceful, quiet, natural campground nestled in among massive sycamore trees just a few minutes walk to an inviting beach cove which you have full access to. Great retreat for locals and travelers alike. We greatly enjoyed our stay and will return, however, here are a few things visitors might benefit from knowing:||--Most campsite parking spaces are oriented at a 90-degree angle, unlike many campgrounds that have campsite parking spaces at a 45-degree angle. This, combined with shallower parking spots, makes backing-in a trailer much more challenging. Fortunately the campground was mostly empty when we arrived so we could use the extra space to maneuver. If the campground is full, it would be exponentially more challenging to park a trailer there.||--Due to the parking space orientation, you cannot un-hitch or hitch-up your trailer without blocking the main park road in most of the spots. We actually had to move our trailer after finishing backing-in because we were blocking the road for too long. Even then when we backed-in again someone had to wait for us for a few minutes while we finally un-hitched. When we hitched-up to leave we waited to start until no cars were moving through the loop. Thanks to the campground being mostly empty we didn't end up blocking anyone. Be prepared to work quickly!||--Campsite parking spots are much shallower than most campgrounds; on the website, our site was listed as 31 feet, which I figured meant the overall length, but it was actually 31 feet WIDE and about 18 feet deep. Be prepared to park your RV differently than you normally would.||--Due to the campground's proximity to urban areas, there were some visitors who appeared homeless and living in their cars and RVs. They were good neighbors but as this is not a "remote wilderness" destination know that it attracts a different crowd.||--Campground was a bit windy in mid-September.||--No cell service in the deeper part of the campground but there is a strong signal just a few minutes walk away by the highway.||--Bring bug repellant due to mosquitoes and other insects.||--Safest way to access the beach is by car (parking is free to those staying in the campground). Crossing the highway by foot appears to be allowed. There is also a highway underpass that apparently can be used at low-tide but access is only via steep embankments.||--Beach was a bit messy on the upper area and portable toilets were quite dirty, but the lower beach next to the waterline was beautiful and clean. We saw a seal and a lot of dolphins swimming by. There were no lifeguards when we were there. Dogs are allowed, but only on leashes -- some dogs were not on leashes though. Seawater was warmer than we expected.||--Showers/bathrooms/sinks are clean but could use some TLC (paint/repair/updating). No soap is provided at the sinks so bring your own.

We stayed Aug 24-26, 2025, camp site #1. Very quiet at night we heard the waves crashing against the rocks, crickets and an owl. We also saw a fox run through our site. The place is very relaxing. Bathrooms and showers are clean. Firewood available for purchase for $10 a bundle, the tokens for the shower are both cash only. Love this place.

We had a wonderful time at Sycamore Canyon Campground. The trees were expressive and the hillsides and trails were beautiful. Restrooms/showers need attention but I’ve seen worse.
