This rarely applauded grey and rust icon of Spokane’s history was a delight on a mixed weather day in mid November. Reading about Spokane’s early immigrant laborers and hearing the modern vehicles traverse the bridge overhead on the Maple Street Bridge was solemn, insightful, and grounding. Playing with the camera/phone/oracle trying to elicit unseen virtues in the nature around me was pleasant and entertaining while I waited for my store to open on Main Street above.

Very quiet and "peaceful" place. Great place to walk!

This is a great park to walk through if you’re doing the Riverfront/Kendal Yards/People’s Park loop. The informational signs are site specific and well written. This is a great spot to bring takeout food from downtown or birdwatch by the river. There’s a number of benches and a couple picnic tables under the Maple Street bridge.

Easy easy entry to Spokane river and begin a not so gentle float in August. I say that because a lot of rocks in this section. Takes 3.5 hours in a tube.

Without a doubt, one of the coolest and quirkiest neighborhoods in town. Good vibes, river access, great people. Yesterday while walking was unexpectedly offered a very tasty plate of bbq from a stranger's family gathering, a gesture which I feel characterizes the neighborhoods overall persona. After dark the area gets a bit odd, not necessarily in a bad way. Definitely check out the house with beautiful sacred geometry latticework and led/uv lights, you really can't miss it after dark and is way cooler than any residential holiday light display I've ever seen.

Okay, let's talk about some good things as well as some not so good things. The park itself gets 5 stars. I mean you literally can drive up to a park that sits right on the river! It's a huge green space with shade trees. The not so good... I'm not sure if it's because the park is not used a lot, or if the transient population feels emboldened, but the homeless were everywhere. They didn't bother us, but there were a few that came close enough to make us feel uncomfortable. I found used needles by the river and left over trash and clothes from previous camps. So I think that we need to visit this park more often, let them know that this is not a place of addiction but a place of fun and family.
