One of my favorite reservations to visit especially in the fall. I highly recommend visiting. The trails are great and within a short distance you arrive at the beautiful pond. The rock formations here are also very cool. And make sure to stop by the cabin. One of my favorite underrated trustees properties!
Beautiful place! The trails are pretty short, so it's great if you want a peaceful walk. The lake had lots of tadpoles and even a catfish.
Beautiful Trails and Scenery. You definitely want hiking boots as there were some pretty wet and/or muddy areas. I did spot some black Bear scat and saw a bear print in the mud on the summit trail so be cautious. The views are incredible though and I will definitely be back
Beautiful area with some amazing stone structures. Nice loop trails leading to multiple points of interest. Rock house cliffs and balance rock were my favorites here. The pond is nice though lots of beaver activity in the area. Nice view from the porch of the shelter. Decent amount of parking in the gravel parking lot.
Wonderful place to hike. Beautiful scenery. Great for photography
Final hike on this mid week trip in town #173 (West Brookfield) towards hiking in every town & city in the Commonwealth . I parked in the lot off Route 9, did the Pond Trail (east of the pond) then the Fire Road, did the Summit Loop, then the Fire Road (with a detour to the cabin) and finally the Pond trail (west of the pond). These pictures do not accurately show the size of these rocks, they truly are the size of houses !
Nice pull off on your way towards the Quabbin, or light home in the afternoon. The rock house are the large boulders near the parking area, with a opening to pass through (with only one tight spot you need to crouch under) The area continues with a trail that loops the pond. There is a good variety of mushrooms, and other forest fauna to be found along the trail. You’ll note many of the trees around the pond have had visits from beavers. At the height of the trail is a cabin overlooking the pond. There are longer trails to take if you want to do more exploring.
