Red Gate Woods

Beautiful forest preserve. Connected to several other forest preserves through a variety of trails. A unique historical site as the first nuclear reactor was buried here. Plenty of parking. A lot to see and enjoy here-will definitely be back to explore further!

Amazing trails, some of the best, if not the best in Chicagoland. So many miles of trails to explore with many sections being moderate/rugged with a lot of ups and downs. The trails are narrow and I saw more mountain bikers than hikers, so stay alert. Most of the mountain bikers were courteous. Highly recommend having the AllTrails app available for navigation, as there's a lot of trail intersections and offshoots. I can't wait to come back!

Well maintained forest with lots of history. Plenty of bike trails, but all are natural - most were closed because of the recent rains. Only fat-tires allowed on wet trails. Plenty of parking. There's a sigle, large port-a-john that's large enough to change in, but the lock has been broken for a while.

Beautiful forests with many connecting trails. Is a little noisy as it is next to the highway but if you get far enough towards the camp cabins it quiets down. There is alot of wildlife and flora to take in. Gorgeous after the rain. If you are looking for quiet and solitude may not be the best option but if you are looking to reconnect with nature visually this is the place for you. Recommend downloaded trail maps as there are endless miles of connecting trails super easy to get lost ♡♡♡ if it didnt close at dark I wouldn't mind getting lost here 🙊

This is such a cool park!!! There’s trails both paved and unpaved. Neat area to explore with parking lot to leave your car. There’s some pretty gnarly mountain bike trails if that’s your thing. I love this park so much.

This place was absolutely amazing. Not only from a beautiful nature and trails perspective, but the history behind "Site A" has got to be one of the coolest things that I never knew about right in our own proverbial backyard.

Excellent choice for bicycle, or hiking, absolutely beautiful nature around, the trails are very well done and there are maps everywhere, around every corner. Would go again with my bicycle next time.
