The Spa at The Brown Palace

📍 Gay-friendly spas in Denver

3.5

The Spa at The Brown Palace in Denver offers a blend of luxury and relaxation, set within one of the city’s most iconic hotels. While some guests highlight the skill of therapists like Isaac and Leah—known for their expertise in deep tissue and facial treatments—others note inconsistencies in service delivery, particularly with appointment reliability and amenity standards. The spa’s facilities, though elegant, occasionally fall short in maintenance, with dated decor and uneven attention to detail.

For those seeking a refined escape, the experience hinges on the therapist’s ability to deliver personalized care. The signature robes and premium shampoo add a touch of indulgence, but operational hiccups—such as miscommunication or unavailable services—can detract from the overall impression. Ideal for travelers who prioritize professionalism and quality, the spa’s strengths lie in its skilled practitioners, though expectations of flawless execution should be tempered.

Isaac was great. As I am a man with a muscular, athletic build, it can sometimes be difficult to find a massage therapist able to go deep enough into the muscle. I appreciate his hard work on his hands and leaning in with his body. He also worked around my pinched neck nerve as well. I definitely recommend his work and fully appreciate his dedication.

Sad this is what has become of the spa at one of the top luxury hotels in Denver. Masseuse was fine, nothing exciting. However, she told me the 80 min signature included aromatherapy and asked if I wanted scalp, hand and foot massage for the full body. I said yes, she did none of those and there was no aromatherapy. Strange odor in the steam room (no eucalyptus or other scents). Showers don’t get very hot. Towels are tiny and thin (think motel towels). Vanity lights were out, there were also exposed light fixtures. Counters in the locker room needed wiping down. They offer magnifying mirrors that the lights don’t work. They offer blow dryer and curling irons but no hair brushes, q-tips, cotton rounds, or other typical items and amenities found in a spa locker room. Dated and worn decor. Highlights were the robe and the shampoo scent.

We booked a couples’ massage a month in advance to celebrate our first anniversary, with appointments scheduled right at opening (9 AM). When we arrived, the front desk staff hadn’t even opened yet—so everything started late. Then we were told one of the massage therapists had called out, which meant we couldn’t have our couples massage at all. I was told I could get a facial instead, but once we got to the waiting room and the front desk lady finally arrived, she said that service was already booked. The only alternative offered was a pedicure—but that technician had also called out. So even the backup to the backup wasn’t available. My husband was taken back for his massage with Isaac, who gave him a fantastic experience. At least his massage was half off. Meanwhile, I was left sitting in the waiting room in a robe, with no apology, no alternative, and no effort to make it right. The issue wasn’t the massage staff—it was the complete failure in planning, scheduling, and communication. If you can’t honor confirmed appointments, especially for milestone celebrations, you shouldn’t be taking bookings. We won’t be back.

For a premium-priced experience, the Brown Palace Spa falls short in both facilities and operations. My fiancée and I booked a couples massage, but the spa double-booked the only couples massage room and failed to inform us. I only learned of the issue when the masseuse mentioned it. Despite being the only man in the men's facility, I found a used towel in the shower, the steam room had an unpleasant odor, the dry sauna was out of order, and no washcloths were available. The towels provided were of lower quality than those found at a budget motel. The only redeeming factor was the excellent masseuse, and the spa offered a 15% discount for the inconvenience. However, at $500, the experience was far from worth it.

What a great place to stay. My wife and I stayed here on our anniversary. Christmas decorations were classic and beautiful. Our room was at the top of the palace. We ordered room service, ate a dinner and breakfast in the restaurants. It was delicious. Would recommend this place. The staff were top notch.

I've traveled to all the best spots globally and Leah was absolutely magnificent. Facial and massage! Skin is glowing, knots all found and gone! She's talented and more importantly sweet!

My husband set up a wash/dry and style, a massage, and a facial. The massage was the only good part. The stylist didn’t use any heat protection on my hair, and burned my scalp with the blow dryer. During the facial she insisted I had to have several extractions done. I told her I have sensitive skin but she poked and squeezed all over my face anyway, and now I have several dark spots, scars, and bruises.
