This is my second time staying at this hotel, and once again, the entire experience was absolutely amazing. The staff were very professional, attentive, and welcoming throughout my stay. The food was excellent, and the room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. I have traveled to many places across different states, but this hotel truly stands out as one of my favorites. It is definitely one of the biggest reasons I look forward to coming back to Minneapolis. I am already looking forward to my third visit soon!
I absolutely love this hotel. I first stayed here last Valentine’s Day and ended up coming back another six to eight times throughout the year. We considered trying somewhere else in Chicago this Valentine’s, but I couldn’t find another property that offers a rooftop hot tub with a bar that serves cocktails poolside — that alone sets this place apart. As a business owner, it’s incredibly refreshing to come here and truly unwind. The customer service is consistently outstanding. I called yesterday and was told they were fully booked, which was really disappointing. I asked if they would call me in the event of a cancellation, not fully expecting to hear back. To my surprise, they followed through and called when a room opened up. That level of attentiveness speaks volumes. If I had to mention one minor drawback, it would be the food menu options on-site — but I’ll admit I’m a bit particular. Fortunately, there are excellent dining options right across the street, so it’s hardly an issue.
Our stay at the Hewing, paired with both brunch and dinner, was exceptional. We started with brunch, and our server Nic was truly outstanding, easily one of the best we’ve ever had. From start to finish, they didn’t miss a single detail. Our drinks stayed full, the pacing was perfect, and they encouraged us to explore the full range of thoughtful, regionally inspired dishes. The French toast with sauce was a standout, and the Eggs Benedict and breakfast sandwiches were just as impressive. The crispy potatoes on the side were the kind you keep reaching for without thinking, simple, delicious, and done right. Dinner carried that same level of care. The staff and service assistant were knowledgeable and welcoming, answering every question with ease. Our party of four tried several dishes, and each one delivered. The décor and overall aesthetic created a warm, inviting atmosphere that made our family‑and‑friends dinner feel even more special. The gentle buzz of nearby tables added to that sense of comfort and connection. Compliments to the chefs, the attention to detail in every dish was clear. Each plate had its own personality and creative flair, coming together in a way that only well‑executed, farm‑to‑table cooking can. A memorable experience from beginning to end.
I brought my mom to high tea at the Hewing for Christmas. I had high expectations and was very disappointed. The lobby atmosphere is Nordic and cozy. But they sat us right in front of the door and they kept the doors open most of the time… we kept getting up to close them. It was about 13 degrees outside. The fireplace was broken and the front desk didn’t offer any help in getting it fixed. Tea was at 11, we didn’t get our first cup of tea until after 11:30 and no water even until 11:20. The food, once we got it (well after noon), was very good. The servers were extremely nice, but we hardly saw them and the people next to us were pretty sure the entire Tea had been forgotten about. The restaurant and lobby were not busy otherwise. For the price and compared to other high teas I’ve been to locally, absolutely do not recommend. Much better value elsewhere. Which is unfortunate because it’s a gorgeous venue. I’m typically a very patient, understanding person when it comes to the service industry, but this was awful.
We booked a night here to celebrate Valentines Day. The overall aesthetic of the hotel is very nice with an up north kind of vibe. The staff were friendly and helpful. We knew ahead of time that the restaurant would be closed for remodeling which was fine but unfortunate for a holiday like Valentine’s Day. I was a bit taken aback at the lack of overall cleanliness of the common spaces. There was a toilet brush just sitting in the hallway our entire stay. There were garbage cans piled up in other places along the hallway. The floor in the entry out to the pool was visibly dirty and it had just opened for the day at 7am so I assume it hadn’t been cleaned from the night before. The pool was filthy, I could see visible hair and debris floating in the pool. It was as if the filter wasn’t working at all. There were towels and other garbage laying all over from the night before. I was confused as to why the hotel wouldn’t clean up before the pool opened at 7am. Overall our stay was fine but for what we paid I had higher expectations.
We really enjoyed our stay here! Bed was very comfy! Staff were lovely! Just to note it’s more so a pool than a hot tub, a pool with warm water, we went to go in it Saturday night but it was full to the brim with couples! Friday night we sat on the rooftop looking at the sky was lovely, seperate area for hotel guests which is nice! Would stay again
My husband and I recently got married at The Hewing in November 2025 and our wedding was absolutely perfect! From the rooftop bar, to the experience of our rehearsal dinner in the private dinning room, to the quality of our hotel room and room service and of course - an idyllic wedding day and night - we cannot say enough nice things about the building and staff. The Hewing is 100% worth every penny!!
